Did You Watch The National Last Night?

4. They also had clips of Tom D'Aquino...he ALSO criticized Belinda Stronach. :) He also tried to argue the Liberals were "No longer" playing to the right-wing. :) 5. Bureau chief Keith Boag pointed out how the NDP were part of the discussion, and no longer "Irrelevant," and they were the last two elections, where the DEBATE WAS BETWEEN THE RIGHT, AND THE RIGHT-OF-CENTRE LIBERALS!!!!! (They finally admit it!) 6. Pollster Allen Gregg continued his Liberal confusion, saying little or nothing, but couldn't heap too much praise on them, and gave some props to the NDP. 7. Best of all, Toronto Star columnist Chantal Hebert continued to provide the BEST political analysis on Canadian TV, coldly noting there was little substance in the throne speech, mentioning how Paul Martin in his "Red Book" talked of a national childcare program, and now he talks of "A few more spaces." She also pooh-poohed the "Democratic deficit" rhetoric, pointing out a few things, including how many "Votes are wasted under the first-past-the-post system." -What a night for the usually confusing, indecisive CBC. Keep it up! Did any of you also see this, and what did you think? Au revoir.

    Perturbed,

I didn\'t get to see it. I hope someone here who has recorded it can send me a copy though ;-) I may even ask CBC for a video transcript.

I hope I can get to this it.

<P> WOW! I can't believe what I just read. Not sure why my friend has come to start to think this about David Orchard, but it sure has my interest. <P> This friend of mine who I have come to respect very much, and enjoy many conversations with. Who is a conservative. Who was against the merge. Who won't support the new conservative party. I actually met him on a group where PC members go to discuss options. <P> Anyways, this fellow who will remain anonymous. Is starting to be suspicious that David Orchard just might be considering a move towards the NDP. <P> Again not sure why he has come to think this, but it would be very interesting for politics to see this happen. <P> Kevin Gagnon <P> P.S.....I think the National show mentioned here you can see online. I'm not sure if its the same one though. <P> <A HREF="http://www.cbc.ca/national/">Watch The National Online Here</A> <br> <br>

To achieve anything politically, we\'ll have to motivate the masses of politically-ignorant individuals, and television is how most of them happen to follow politics, in whole or in part.

What the masses are seeing IS relevant.

I saw the piece and I share many of your thoughts.
James Laxer is absolutely correct (surprise surprise) when he says that the NDP lost votes in the last two elections because fear of the the Reform drove a lot of tactical voters to the Libs.
I myself fit this description having voted for the Liberal in my riding after mistakingly fearing that mere buzz and hype around a new face like Stockwell \"Doris\" Day would attract centrists suffering from Liberal Fatigue.
I have no such fears this time.
If you are a rightward leading Canadian who doesn\'t reflexively hate the French fact(a national rightwinger for lack of a better term)and you are operating with more than just a brain-stem, you are voting for Paul Martin because your only other choice is bound to be:
    1. A Social Credit-style regional rump party lead by Harper, or
    2. An empty bag of a party lead by Stronach or Clement lacking even the regional appeal of the Reform.
This frees up those centre-left Canadians, the real fertile ground of federal politics, to vote NDP.

I also don\'t know how Stronach can say she\'d have smaller government than Martin. Is she trying to make Martin look like a left-wing democrat to get the right-wing votes or does she just not get that Martin is way right wing?

I\'m not even sure that it\'s about right/left anymore. It\'s globalizers versus those who believe in cultural and regional differences, and the right to put these concerns and other human concerns ahead of free-market, libertarian ideology.

My thread got linked to Stronach\'s satirical blog. Cool.

No, I do not watch the CBC, except on Saturday nights.<p> <p>---<br>"History does not repeat itself, but it does rhyme" Mark Twain <br />"The greatest price of not participating in politics is being governed by your inferiors." Plato

You should watch on Frodya, or at least Monday. Rick Mercer\'s \"Moday Rep[ort is great. \"The Newsroom\" and \"This is wonderland\" are also creative, well-wrrotten shows, that don\'t resemble anything on American TV.

It\'s too bad it\'s only a half-hour show, there are some good spots in there.

I\'ve only watched it a few times, but I am looking forward to it every Monday night now.

It\'s too bad that what the masses are seeing is mostly the right-wing agenda.

How do you fix that with our media slanted so badly ?
