Many Canadian citizens do not believe their participation in the political process has an impact. People generally don't expend effort on enterprises which produce no productive result.
Solutions have been proposed to reverse this trend. In determining the 'best' solution, Canadians should first consider whether their nation's requirements for democracy and 'leaders' remain the same as in the past. If the requirements have changed, what are the alternatives?
A citizen's right in a democratic process should be to participate directly in the decision making process of their nation. This has not in the past been feasible. Through a representational democractic process, citizens can elect representatives to represent their views and interests in the national decision making and administrative process.
Technology is available today that could be utilized to implement a 'direct democracy' through which citizens could actively participate in the nation's decision making process. In direct democracy citizens can select individuals to administer the nation's business based on the skills and abilities possesed by those individuals, rather than political party affiliations. These individuals would be directly accountable to citizens for results.
The argument can be made that the effort required to reform Canada's representative democracy to a system which can better serve the interests of all Canadians, and which may at any rate prove futile, could be better expended on the implementation of a direct democracy system.
The Cincinnatus Party of Canada has been created for the purpose of organizing citizen efforts into the implementation of a direct democracy at the federal level.
The Cincinnatus party believes that Canada's viability as a nation can best be maintained through utilizing the knowledge and skills possessed by all Canadians and involving Canadians directly in the national decision making process.
The Cincinnatus party believes that Canada's future generations can best be assured of having a livable nation by placing responsibility in the hands of the citizens who support the nation and who will be the ancestors of those future generations.
The Cincinnatus party believes that society no longer requires the type of political 'leaders' that have been true for the past and that Canadian citizens have, or can be provideed with, the tools, skills and knowledge to become their own 'leaders'.
