France and Quebec plan joint mission By RHÉAL SÉGUIN Thursday, October 14, 2004 - Page A1 Ottawa is granting Quebec Premier Jean Charest the unprecedented privilege of accompanying a foreign government leader to another country to promote common interests. Mr. Charest will join French Prime Minister Jean-Pierre Raffarin next month on a trade mission to Mexico Nov. 17-18, where they are scheduled to meet Mexican President Vicente Fox. Quebec has special diplomatic relations with France, but never before have the two governments used their unique bilateral ties to develop a common economic strategy in a foreign land. The province is expected to help France develop new ties in North America, and France will do the same for Quebec in Europe when the two governments participate in a similar visit to an Eastern European country some time next year. A senior Quebec government adviser said Ottawa was worried that the joint Team France-Quebec trade mission to Mexico could create a precedent if Mr. Charest was perceived as obtaining special treatment, as a head of state, in a foreign country......... http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/ArticleNews/TPStory/LAC/20041014/QUEBEC14/TPNational

Yep! That`s the goal! Weaken the federal government so it`s easier to divide and conquer and sell us out to the USA! Quebeckers elected a liberal government and turned their back on a sovereignist PQ government. Why? Because the majority of Quebeckers call themselves CANADIANS! And just think, Martin is doing this with a minority government. You just know that the liberals and conservatives are the REAL coalition. And where`s Jack Layton in all this? Hello? Jack? Did you suddenly become a mute? Then again, from the start, i sensed something about Layton, leading me to call him half-ass Jack!

Yeah, you SHAMericans did lots about the last election the Bushes fixed! In both world wars, Canadians did all the ass kicking in Europe and then at the last minute, the Americans come along and plant their flag and say, "TEAM AMERICA IS HERE! LOOK WHAT WE DID WORLD. NOW KISS OUR ASSES!" - For the land of the ME! (because it`s all about me.) And the home of the SLAVE!

Charest is a conservative in liberal sheep's clothing
    and who knows what else.

So who really cares if Québec participates in diplomatic
and economic missions on its behalf ? The last I
heard, Québec is known as a Canadian province and
whatever good these missions bring to Québec, it will
benefit "Canadians", non ? Is there anything wrong
    with that ?

Perhaps. Just throwing this out for debate, that's all.

Oh yeah, and bang on about Charest....separatists, federalists, they're all business types.

We should care, because this has decentralizing effects on the whole country. What`s to say that other provinces don`t take this precedent and run with it, forging their own separate agreements with other countries.

Well isn't that what Klein was trying to do, 'when Mr. Klein goes to Washington', 'cept that by all accounts, he wasn't very successful. Oh wait, is that the border I see cracking...nah, it's got a big fat lock on it now.... just kidding!

Yeah, well the Americans are under Emperor Bush until you decide to vote him out! Also, you are in trouble in the world because your Emperor and past Emperors pushed too many countries around! We just have to deal with a corrupt government!

Quebec nationalists are a lot like Canadian nationalists. They just have a different whipping boy (us instead of the US) to blame all the bad things on. The other main difference is that they have the additional element of ethnic nationalism.

But on the other hand, the Quebecois do have a genuine culture and identity that are truly distinct from those of the rest of Canada. What does Canada have to differentiate it from the US? A bigger welfare state and less entrepreneurial economy. Not exactly the stuff of stirring anthems. "The True North well protected and free from competitive forces."

This is a trade mission with recognized and agreed
    upon Canadian partners.
To forbid provincial governments from looking after
their affairs and interests for 'Big Brother's' sake in
Ottawa is not sensible nor realistic.
On the contrary, Ottawa and all Canadians should be
pleased that provincial governments have the ability to
conduct themselves as leaders on the world stage.

Canada would be much better off politically, culturally and economically if Quebec could be convinced to leave, unfortunately however we keep giving Quebec mountains of money so they can enjoy their own private little welfare state, they're not that dumb that they would pass up a free ride. Vive le Quebec libre!
