Canada Will Be Leader

Posted on Friday, October 06 at 14:40 by Diogenes
Speaking in Calgary at the Woodrow Wilson International Center's awards dinner -- where he was honoured for his attention to international relations -- Harper left little doubt that he'll continue to press the need for Canada to accept increasing global responsibilities. "I believe Canadians want a significant role -- a clear, confident and influential role," said Harper's prepared speech, told to several hundred onlookers packed into the Telus Convention Centre. "They don't want a Canada that just goes along; they want a Canada that leads . . . I intend to make this a country that leads." http://tinyurl.com/nhelk

True, our neighbor to the south with its uni-lateral military ideas and right to defend itself attitude has forced the issue that Canada should rethink and rebuild its military levels to a level that will allow Canada to patrol and respond to any threat whether it be Air, Water, or Land in strength as to borders, territory as well as fulfill our world obligations and interests.

But at the same time this does not mean as PM Harper and his Conservative Party thinks that we as nation need a foreign Government and a foreign people to direct our affairs domestically, nationally and internationally.

Canada and Canadians do not need to follow the USA nor do we need to be directed as to how to be a nation and a people by them.

It is time Canada gets a Leader and a Political party that is Pro Canada and Pro Canadian not a believer and follower in Canada being a protectorate of the United States of America.

I as a Canadian, don't want to be the type of leader Harper invisions. I want to be a passive Canadian that won't get envolved with American wars and only supply passive aide to those in need. I want a voice in Canadas major decisions. I want Canada as a leader in democracy of it's own decisions.
Of course that's what "I" want but as a Canadian, Harper wants me to shut up and obey. He dosen't want "Canada" to be a leader. "He" wants to be a leader.

"It also came as a new poll indicates public backing for the war in Afghanistan has surged in recent weeks."

Bullshit. Support for the war has been dropping week over week for months on end now, but suddenly support has risen? Why? More soldiers have been killed in the past few weeks - that has always lead to a drop in support but suddenly now it's reversed? I for one don't believe it. It would not be the first time the pro-war crowd has twisted polling results to suit their own aims.

If there was ever a time for Canadians to become pushy - now is the time - for time is running out on this nation called Canada.

It would be interesting to see the entire text of Harper's speech but what is reported appears extremely imperialistic. Maybe the award from the Woodrow Wilson Internation Center and the glowing words from George W. Bush went to his head: "I intend to make this a country that leads" and referring to the deaths of Canadian soldiers as being "the price of leadership." Reported fragments of speech verge on megalomania.

The death toll is 40 now and this is how it is going to go on, as I predicted long ago, 1-2 at a time, while claiming huge Taliban losses.

Of course, soldiers, especially volunteer professionals, must be prepared to die and I have no problem with this. I never expected to survive when I joined up and it took several miracles that I have.

But the question is, what is the purpose of their service and dying ? In the vast majority of cases, absolutely none. It certainly was none in my case, fighting for one of history's worst criminals, killing others who were fighting for another mass murdering monster.

Millions of soldiers have died and are dying for no valid reasons, only to satisfy the insane cravings of their rulers and officers, who often are worse maniacs than the rulers.

Look at the eyes of Harper. Totally empty, without any human feelings. The eyes of the predator. Sending people to die for a maniac like him and his even crazier idols is the biggest crime.

"Harper's steadfast support for the Afghanistan mission ..."

It's easy for Harper to tow the Empire's line when he's safe at home making noises with his mouth while other people are dying for the insane cause of making foreigners rich.

And another one gone, and another one gone
    Another one bites the dust

Same thing happened to the Russian's before the Canadian's, and the British before the Russiian's, and ...

I ran across a few showing the same results. Propaganda fed by the media. Mis-information is always an important step in justifying war. I had at one time thought Canadians were above it. I also predicted/hoped Harper would be leaving before Canada homogenised with the USA. I was wrong. If those polls have any accuracy, then I am also ashamed.

"They don't want a Canada that just goes along; they want a Canada that leads . . . I intend to make this a country that leads."

The direction Harper will "lead" this nation is obvious: downhill.

I posted the following last April, and am posting it again only this time I dropped the hopeful ending.

    We see it each evening
    Live on our tv
    The fighting and dying
    so we can be "free"

    So why's it the poor
Who get sent off to die
    While the young monied Master
    is home eating pie?

    The bastards and whores
Say that it needs to be so
    It's your duty to country
    That's why you must go

    Say goodbye to your parents
    Your children, your wife
    And the freedom you had
    In your non-uniform life

They'll shave you you and train you
    To shoot or be shot
    To obey orders blindly
    Be they crazy or not

The thing they don't tell you
    About foreign wars
Is that you're fighting in his home
    While abandoning yours

    So while fearless leader
    was home sleeping in bed
    You were out on patrol
And got shot in the head

    So now you're back home
    And the casket is closed
    Your family's all present
    You all have been hosed

    You dad sits there wondering
    Why you had to die
    You mom and your wife
    Can do nothing but cry

    Your kids will grow up
    All missing their dad
    Never knowing the life
    They should have had

    And meanwhile on TV
    The talking heads drone
    fearless leader just smiles
    And chats on the phone

    Tomorrow he's on TV
    Discussing the war
Why it has to be done
    And lying some more

    And somewhere out there
    In that faraway land
    A newbie hits dirt
    And swallows some sand
