SPP Protestors Arrested

Posted on Tuesday, August 14 at 12:51 by sthompson
"I think this is just a taste of the police aggression that people who go to Montebello might be facing," Dan Sawyer, who helped organize the protest, told CBC News on Monday. Sawyer, 32, and Matthew Morgan-Brown, 31, were arrested and charged with assaulting police after a demonstration by an estimated 50 to 80 people outside the Fairmont Château Laurier hotel on Saturday. The protest was against the 2005 Security and Prosperity Partnership pact, which will be discussed by Prime Minister Stephen Harper, U.S. President George W. Bush and Mexican President Felipe Calderon at the summit in Quebec on Aug. 20 and 21. The agreement was signed between Canada, the U.S. and Mexico in 2005 to boost co-operation on security, trade and public-health issues, but opponents of the pact fear it will erode Canadian sovereignty in areas such as natural resources, security and military issues. Protesters 'confrontational and aggressive': police The Ottawa police said in a news release that the arrests took place because several of the protesters were "confrontational and aggressive." Continue Article Ottawa Police Const. Alain Boucher said Sawyer was arrested after an officer tried to stop some graffiti from happening and Sawyer allegedly intervened, ending up in an altercation with the officer. Boucher said he did not know the circumstances of Morgan-Brown's arrest. But Sawyer said police approached him and about seven others after the protest ended. "At the time of my arrest, all I was doing was walking home," he said Monday, adding that he has not been told the time or other details of his alleged assault on a police officer. Which brings up another point for the protests on Sunday.

    Who will be available to call, should we need bail money?

    Good point--I'll see if there is anything being arranged by Edmonton organizers, and otherwise I have a lot of family in Edmonton I'm sure I can get ahold of and I'll talk to them about this as well.

    I hope you don't think I took your warning lightly. I didn't.

    "Have none of you any idea att all of who you are bucking?"

    Yes. You mentioned the recent movie "'V' for Vendetta" the other day. Do you remember what was the Catalyst that swung the people to action? A young girl was mistakenly killed by the jackboots.

    The PTB's need bucking, then they will make a mistake that will cost them. I don't mind being that mistake. I pledged my life to the service of my country long ago, and this is as noble a cause as any I was asked to do in the past. Perhaps more so.

    Very honourable Doc and I agree. The police/mainstream media will always try to paint protestors as violent and aggressive, so if we as protestors intentionally act violently, it only confirms the attempts to paint us as dangerous and "justifies" heavier action on their part while discrediting our message. In some cases police officers in the past have joined protests disguised as protestors for precisely the reason that by behaving aggressively/encouraging violent behaviour they gave the police justification to be heavy-handed--let's not give them more.

    The brain dirtied goons on the front line in all likelihood have taken some state oath as well and any provocation what-so-ever will be excuse enough to wade into the gathered with mace and clubs swinging whether by the perceived actions of the demonstrators or via agents provocateur.<br />

    I think blaming the Jews for everything like Diogenes does undermines the nationalist/progressive goals of this website, and made me a lot less enthusiastic about supporting it. I haven't referred anyone for fear of them reading these incessant rants against Jews (and Mormons and Jehovahs too, rule the world apparently).

    "I think blaming the Jews for everything like Diogenes does..."

    With all due respect to the member who who only signed on to state his weak case, What he fails to realise is that "blame" is laid squarely at the feet of those responsible.
    " the " Jews are Not, repeat, NOT being blamed for everything.
    Blame is being assigned only to those within the Jewish faith who are responsible, if you are unable to assertain this pertenant fact I strongly suggest you examone your own bias' . That is if you are the seeker of truth and fairness you would have the readership here believe you to be by your contribution.

    " In countries including Canada, England and Australia, hate crime laws are used to silence critics of Islam and Judaism. Socially as well as legally, public criticism of Judaism is forbidden as "anti-Semitism" under hate crimes bureaucracies. In contrast, Christ and His followers are routinely held up to mockery and virulent criticism--with no protection. " Harmony Grant

    In my eyes the use of "the" coupled with whichever race, nationality or most topics denotes alinclusiveness. Is this what you aim to do by falsely claiming I "blame the Jews for everything"?

    The B.C. Civil Liberties Association is looking for individuals with legal backgrounds to act as Legal Observers at the protests anticipated on August 20th. <br />
    <br />
    Legal Observers will be asked to attend the protests in teams of two, to document arrests, use of force, intimidating displays of force, denial of access to public spaces like parks and sidewalks, and any other behaviour on the part of law enforcement that appears to restrict demonstrators' ability to express their political views. <br />
    <br />
    Transportation can be arranged through local organizations. <br />
    <br />
    If you are interested in volunteering your time at this event, please contact Christina Godlewska, Articled Student at the B.C. Civil Liberties Association (<a href="http://www.bccla.org">www.bccla.org</a>).<br />

    Sorry. I meant believing that there is a cabal of Jews that controls the world economically and politically undermines the message. I too, believe that critics of Israel/Judaism itself should not immediately be branded as anti-semitic. And it's impossible to say whether or not you yourself are anti-semitic. But really, who doesn't think this particular conspiracy theory is unfounded?

    I could of course bury you in research countering what you believe and here is the thing-<br />
    Your particular beliefs on this topic have no effect what-so-ever on facts<br />
    Top even suggest one is anti-Semitic because they present evidence that Some Jews, and in many cases Jews of convenience, <br />

    seems to me be the height of intellectual chicanery.<br />
    <br />
    It may be impossible for you to determine, with what little evidence you believe you have, that I am or am not anti-Semitic. However that didn’t stop you from connecting anti-Semitism to me because of what I present and you seemed to feel compelled to register as a member to write about.<br />
