Canadian Cattlemen for Fair Trade filed the claim under a provision in the North American Free Trade Agreement that allows individuals to sue over trade practices they feel are damaging. It argues that the U.S. government is restricting the right of Canadian ranchers to earn a living.
"President Bush and the American administration have caused us a lot of damage," feedlot operator Rick Paskal said. "And we're upset with that. And it's time that he let science rule the day, rather than this political rhetoric."

One thing this case will do is keep pressure up on the government to stand up for Canadians.
Ask me - turn off the oil for a few days - the whole affair would end in no time.

Americans. So go ahead and turn off the oil. But if you're committed! leave it off! Don't turn it back on. Don't sell out for the mighty buck. Make us get it elsewhere or go without. We've needed an alternate energy plan for 20 years.
Now, as for the mad cow suit. I'm all for it. We shouldn't be able to prevent cattle trade over one mad cow in Canada when we've already shown that we have mad cow in the U.S. That's a bogus attempt to prevent canadian imports. I live in cattle country, but this embargo on canadian beef is bull.

If I stand for my country today...will my country be here to stand for me tomorrow?
