Time to Offer Olive Branch to U.S.

This man is no Canadian Patriot !! He certainly doesn't deserve a pulpit in one of Canada's largest newspapers.

Note: Time to Offer Olive Bra...

Don\'t say \'anti-Canadian\' again. It sounds too much like we\'re in the Soviet Union or USA.

Yikes, this guy really knows how to slant a story.

He also wants us to have \"a more mature approach\" towards the US so I suggested to him that we confine them to barracks as was done to me by my parents when I was acting juvenile.

Really this guy is so out to lunch and so are the Americans who wrote emails to him...should Canada really send troops etc to help defeat a dictator that is torturing and killing innocent people, when the dictator was put in power by the U.S., the same U.S. that keeps funding terrorists, sells them guys, uses the CIA to overthrow legitimate governments and replaces them with people they can control? This is what people don\'t understand, why on earth should we support any part of this corrupt system? Until the whole truth is revealed we should definetely not shut up and sit on the sidelines, we should speak out loud and clear and demand that the entire truth be made public and then if there is justification, assist to clean up a mess but not under direction of the one who made the mess! We the people of the world should be demanding that the U.N. regain control, and I mean total control of the situation. Get Haliburton and it\'s allies out of the country, force the U.S. to release it\'s prisoners of war and prosecute all war criminals under the world criminal court. This is madness and this article just reconfirms my belief that Alliance and others are so far gone down the south b.s. line that there is no coming back for them. We need to find a way to make people, including the U.S. understand that Canada is not just whimping out, we are not just standing on principle, but we are not going to support unjustified war mongers from destroying countries one by one. That is what Hitler did and he kept saying if you are not with us then you are the enemy, where have we heard this before, as he liberated various countries that didn\'t need liberating!

Imagine what Americans must think of Hugo Chavez, he'd be just as bad as Castro for his terrible crime of independence against the USA! HAHAHAHA!! (from Greg Palast, an excellent BBC reporter) http://www.gregpalast.com/detail.cfm?artid=296& Hugo Chavez was overthrown by a Bush-backed military coup, then his people overthrew the hand-picked dictator (who tore up the constitution among other things btw) selected by the USA & now Chavez is back in again! "Hugo Chavez has an attitude problem. Only last April the Venezuelan president escaped a kidnapping by the Chairman of the nation's Chamber of Commerce. This weekend, Chavez is facing a recall petition by the angry rich of Venezuela. He also faces the wrath of an angry rich American president who does not appreciate Chavez' bad attitude toward globalization a la Rumsfeld." "Chavez has irritated the U.S. in many ways. He changed the Venezuelan Constitution in 1999, granting more land rights to the poor, who make up over half of the 24 million people in Venezuela. Chavez refused to allow U.S. planes to fly over Venezuela during their military activities in Colombia. President Chavez was also the first head of state to visit Saddam Hussein in Iraq since the embargoes in 1990." http://projectcensored.org/publications/2004/12.html This is hilarious! I love this guy! Makes me think of hard-nosed Canadian leaders like MacDonald, Borden & Trudeau who would do what they wanted & the Americans would just have to deal with it. [what am I doing wrong? the formatting isn't what I wanted, I wanted breaks in this & there aren't any]<p>---<br>"So many right-wing christians, so few lions." - t-shirt I saw @ school

I wrote a letter to the editor of the Toronto Star, which they chose not to print.

However, they did print a letter from one Richard Brown of Toronto regarding Rick Anderson\'s article, and his comments are on the mark.

For instance, he uses the word \"sophistry\" which, in the real world means \"liar\" (\"fibber ?\"), one who bends the truth. He also states that our record in the 20th century regarding defending freedom is exemplary compared with the U.S. We are certainly not a nation of cowards, we think before we throw the gauntlet down.

I like the last part, where he says \"Are we anti-American ? No. Are we predominantly anti-George W. Bush ? Maybe. Is this a contradiction ? I don\'t think so. I just wish more Americans felt this way\".

I feel the same. The Americans have to know what image their President is portraying for all the world to see.

As far as I\'m concerned, Rick Anderson is just another far right-wing-nutbar. Pro-American ? Absolutely !

He is one of the many that would sell us out in a minute.

Yeah, I read that same Star article. It`s true. On a per capita basis, Canada has done more to contribute to freedom than any other country! Oh, by the way, nice,up there in Minden!

They say things because it\'s useful to say them, it helps them get ahead in the corporate-media world. Then sooner or later they start to believe what they\'re saying because they\'ve said that stuff enough. If they didn\'t they\'d be unemployed, after all, no media empire would willingly incorporate means to self-destruct.

    as pertaining to this paragraph:

\"It strikes me as quite hypocritical that Canadians take so much pride in their stance on human rights, diversity, tolerance, etc. (the world\'s moral superpower), but finds it so easy to sit idly by while people in oppressed countries around the world are being tortured and murdered in the most inhumane ways\"

this person is right!! we should not just criticize, we
should stop the u.s. from oppressing, torturing and murdering in THE MOST inhumane ways.

    well someone should anyway.

Yes, Minden is nice in the summer, and if you like the outdoors, it\'s a great winter getaway location.

    Personally, I like summer !!

To answer the last writer, yes, someone should stop the hunger and poverty around the world. Unfortunately, the richest country says they will, but does nothing.

Sorry, they are little more than warmongers. By the time the money Bush promised for HIV/AIDS gets there, there won\'t be many drugs in that box.

Let\'s not forget, poverty is world-wide, including Canada and the U.S.

Personally, I think we are headed for a major problem, overpopulation. That will be our downfall.
