The remarks were made on the eve of Nato's critical summit in Latvia. Lt Gen David Richards, the British general and Nato's force commander in Afghanistan, and the Dutch ambassador Daan Everts, its chief diplomat there, have spent five days in the Pakistani capital, Islamabad, urging the Pakistani military to do more to reign in the Taliban. Pakistan speaks from experience. Not all Taliban is resisting the western invaders. Pakistan's foreign minister, Khurshid Kasuri is right. NATO will not change Afghanistan nor protect it from it's own citizens. Sometimes firemen will allow a building to burn because there is no hope of saving it. The Afghani have to run their own country. A Bush Government won't be the answer nor will the oil-line police..
