GM Rice Invades Food Supply; Scientists Baffled Over Source

Posted on Tuesday, August 22 at 13:20 by drcaleb
The USDA says biotech products aren't unusual in the United States, and issued a statement that says, "Since 1987, the U.S. Department of Agriculture and Plant Health Inspection Service has deregulated more than 70 GE [genetically engineered] crop lines and in the last decade farmers have increasingly planted biotech varieties engineered mainly for herbicide tolerance, insect resistance, and enhanced quality traits." The USDA estimates that of the country's 2006 crops, 61 percent of the corn, 89 percent of the soybeans and 81 percent of the cotton are biotech crops. http://www.newstarget.com/020069.html [Proofreader's note: this article was edited for spelling and typos on August 23, 2006]

The article states: "The USDA estimates that of the country's 2006 crops, 61 percent of the corn, 89 percent of the soybeans and 81 percent of the cotton are biotech crops."

I did not know that. No wonder human health is rapidly deteriorating in the US. No wonder the EU and others want to keep that stuff out, if at all possible.

But now that it's been found where it's not supposed to be, of course someone will say that it's not been proven to be harmful, etc., blah, gobbledigook, and so on and so forth.

Hi, folks! Been a while since I`ve posted. But, My computer has been down, and now, I`m at my sister`s place, on her computer, checking up on the site. Anyway, given that we`ve had GE foods on our grocery shelves since 1997, this comes as no suprise. Yeah, I don`t know, we`ve been saying much of the same stuff over the past few years, but nothing has changed. In fact, to me, things keep getting a little worse! And dare I say it again- until Canadians all across the country unite ( by the millions) against this evil, we will continue to lose our country- piece by piece. And although many people don`t seem to care, many others are becoming aware, so to my fellow proud Canadians- DON`T DESPAIR!! All things worthwhile are a bit of a process, so let`s keep chipping away at this thing!

One of the reason, I suspect, why the previous Liberal government refused to have anything to do with food labelling, would be because of this GMO thing..........

The big corporations think that they can own life through patent protection. The reality is that life has a life of its own, and no one can control it.

Only those who do not know what they are eating, will eat GM foods, which is the only reason why GM labeling is NOT madated by law.

The main and only purpose of GM seeds and foods is the control of the world's food supply by a handful of multinationals, forcing people to buy and eat their products.

E.g. This is why it was mandated by the US that Iraqi farmers may not use their own seeds, but are supposed to buy them every year, as they must in North America, or pay the companies, even if the pollen is blown on their fields by the wind, as in the case of Sask, farmer Percy Schmeisser et al.

GM seeds have no advantage of any sort, require as many, or more chemicals as the present phoney "Green Revolution" farming, the yields are no better and they could infect and destroy the healthy varieties. There are no independent studies supporting their use, yet now even the Europeans are jumping on the bandwagon.

In other words, GMseeds and foods part of the neocon conspiracy for total collectivization, Stalin could only dream of.

So, where are our fanatics, like our "individualist collectivizer" to put in some good words in their defence?

Figure out who made the rice and you'll find the cause for the "contamination". Don't forget, the supreme court ruled that if you have GMO genes in your crop, you are stealing and you owe the GMO Patent holder lots of money - regardless that you did not even WANT the bloody things in your fields.

The best thing that can happen to one of these patent holders is for their genes to "accidently" spread throughout the country's crops.

Ed, I agree 100% with that view.

According to Percy's case vs Monsanto, the farmer owes the patent holder money but the farmer can now sue for consequences as the court said that the patent holder is responsible/lible for any damage GM genes do to their crop. If I for example had a farm that grew organic food and sold organic certified heritage seed and GM shit got into my crops I could sue the sit out of those corporate scum bags according to the supreme court of Canada. Percy did not lose, he kicked the shit out of those assholes.
