Trust a bank? Are you nuts!? The only reason I use a bank is because it is nearly impossible to conduct any kind of business without a bank reference.

And this trend to a "cashless" society can only be to the banks' further advantage........

According to many people I know CIBC commonly pilfers money from people's chequing and savings accounts without notice or explanation.

We dumped CIBC because they treated us like shit! So we now use President`s Choice Financial. NO FEE BANKING! And they`ve got good rates. They appear to be for the little guy. Mind you, they use CIBC machines, and there`s no tellers, its all online. But NO FEE BANKING, as it should be!

Yeah, because there are no tellers....now we have to work on that whole "no-interest banking" thing. :)

My little pink piggie has never failed me. Doesn't pay interest though.

    Hmmm...come to think of it...

I couldn't trust any organization that celebrates the obscenity of more than $1Billion in profit annually. The cashless society has created a finacial umbilical that is very hard to cut. I can survive in Calgary without being connected because I know how to use community assets like Cgy Bucks but when I travel, I am back to ATMs and debit cards.

I hate banks!!! I recently went to a Credit Union to open an account and couldn't believe my ears when they told me that they needed to do a credit check before I could open an account. I said WHAT? I have to submit to a credit check so I can lend YOU money? G'bye!

Yeah, I know, you guys are right about PC, but I just got tired of paying fees to a bank that already makes huge profits with OUR money. Banking fees should not exist! In the face of all this, I found PC to be my best choice. If i had other choices, I`d certainly go for it. But you also have to remember, I didn`t put tellers out of work. The big banks have been doing this, long before PC came to be, and doing it with record profits! It`s like GM eliminating 30,000 jobs in Flint, Michigan during at time of record profits! It has nothing to do with the car you buy, or even the wages of the workers. It`s all about corporate GREED!

No, I do not trust any bank. I recently had the same experience when I attempted to open an account at the CS Co-Op in Ottawa. They asked me to sign a form allowing them to do a credit check and release any information they obtained about me entirely at their discretion, even though I was not seeking credit. I too said good-bye. Some years ago, another major Canadian bank, with whom I had dealt all my life and with whom my parents had dealt for more than 40 years, treated me in a manner I considered shabby, dishonest, abusive, disreputable and treacherous. When I complained to the Canadian Banking Ombudsman, they told me for three months they were investigating, then turned around and told me they could not investigate the matter. I believe they caved in to the bank. Would you trust any of that clique? I don't think so! I use them as minimally as possible, but do I trust them at all. NO WAY!

Dave, I used to work for a bank, I can relate to what you say, but here is the downside of the no tellers, no jobs...which means more profit for the big guy! Not that the jobs were great, as with many corporations you are replaceable, you don't require raises, that is for shareholders, one person quits or is fired, you get to do their job, plus yours for the same wage, etc etc

Yep I'm with ING - best service from them and PC.
ING does not have checking accounts so you minght not see it as a benifit. PC offers a simliar account - basically just a savings account. I just use it to hide a little money from myself til i really need it.
