The ferries aren't going anywhere. But they could be run better. Sell them off to two companies that have to compete with each other - then you'll see service improve.
No, what we will actually see is one company driving the other into bankruptcy, then after they complete the buy out [for a song likely], we will have a fully privatized, monopolized ferry system that can charge whatever they like and provide the poorest level of service they can reasonably get away with. Is this what you really want? I know I don't. Since the ferries are an extremely important link in both the national and provicial highway systems, it is imperative that we keep them publicly owned and regulated. Would you also suggest we sell the rest of our highway system to private enterprise? Would you willingly, and with a smile, pay a toll every 20 or 30 kilometers for the privilege of driving on the roads your and possibly your parents' and even grandparents' tax dollars have bought and paid for many times over? I think not.
