Bush tips harsh critic of U.N. for envoy's post Bolton `knows how to get things done' Rocky confirmation process expected TIM HARPER WASHINGTON BUREAU WASHINGTON—John Bolton, whose disdain for the United Nations has been a hallmark of a lengthy career in government, has received U.S. President George W. Bush's nod as the next U.S. ambassador to the U.N. The choice of a man who has little time for diplomatic niceties stunned much of official Washington and spurred Democrats to accuse Bush of empty talk in his stated claim of reaching out to allies in his second presidential term. http://www.thestar.com/NASApp/cs/ContentServer?pagename=thestar/Layout/Article_Type1&c=Article&cid=1110235812280&call_pageid=970599109774&col=Columnist1053514084392&DPL=IvsNDS%2f7ChAX&tacodalogin=yes

In other words - Bush - "screw the world for daring to call me on the lies over Iraq. Screw you for challenging me over Iran, and especially screw you for daring to speak up on behalf of the terrorized palestinians."

Do we need anymore evidence that Bush and cabal are out to rule the world and don't care about trying to hide it anymore? He puts a known liar as Sec. of State, a war criminal as viceroy to Iraq and now 'screw the UN, and kill the Palestinians' Bolton to the UN post.

I will hold no words when it comes to calling a criminal regime just that - a criminal regime.

One has to wonder what kind of threats are being issued behind the scenes, if this is what's on the surface.

"In an Orwellian twist, Rice recently called Mr. Bolton a man with 'a proven track record of effective multilateralism.' She also said he would focus on UN reform. John Bolton might want to 'reform' the United Nations right out of existence. At the very least, he will try to ensure that no embarrassment reminiscent of the UN's rejection of the U.S.-led Iraq war is likely to happen again. This alone may explain the appointment of the man who thinks there is no such thing as the UN as the new ambassador to the UN."

the lying game just keeps chugging along

Me thinks you are sadly missing a point here. The UN is a very peculiar institution. Half are terrorists and the other half are misfits. That is why Canada is so comfortable in New York. This outfit must be reformed. Corruption is daily occurence. Terrorists on human rights committees. Passing resolutions for the fun of it with no enforcement. Passing resolutions then doing end runs for money grubbing side deals such as France and Germany. If I was an American I wouldn't want a dime paid to this outfit until reforms are well established. That said I wonder how a guy from Toronto can get a Canadian job at the UN? Beautiful apartment in nicest city in the world, great theatre, culture, people, expense account. As a Canadian all I'd have to do is support the corruption then go out to the Blue Note for great jazz or the Lincoln Centre.
We support the UN as this way our government makes no decisions but hides behind this mob. At least the Yanks will try to clean the place up. A tough ambassador is exactly what is required. We probably have a warmed up Lloyd Axworthy.

duh ' dem der terrarists are there.

Where do you clowns learn that tripe? Rightwing radio and Faux News more than likely.

So hey - America torturing and using terror, overthrowing nations - democratic nations at that, using banned weapons, protecting the one nation with the most resolutions against it - is all fine, but if those damn towel heads dare try to speak up we must get rid of the place for that and that alone.

    Nice friggin attitude. Useful idiot.
