Harper Says Liberal Govt "Anti-American"

Posted on Monday, November 01 at 13:02 by sthompson
From the Grande Prairie Daily Herald Tribune article:
''You know, I'll just keep putting it out there,'' he said. ''Whether it's flowers, or beef, or lumber, the government's inability to contain its anti-American sentiment has done nothing to (help Canadians).''

He acknowledged some infrastructure improvements could be made at borders but said that generally, ''ongoing trade irritants with the U.S. have been grossly affected and made significantly worse'' by Prime Minister Paul Martin's ''inability'' to improve relations.

A Liberal MP calls Americans bastards and idiots, and she isn't even rebuked by the PM - the Liberals are obviously anti-American. These tactics are used to appeal to ethnic pride for the benefit of the Liberal party at the expense of Canada, there's no need for such crude ignorant rants.

Who did that? I don't recall anyone calling all Americans 'Bastards' or 'Idiots'.

The reason softwood and beef continue to hang is because we are not tough enough with them.

Harper meant to say - "they are not licking boots like we want them to. Thus that makes them anti-american." It's pro-canadian to hate your own country to that lot. its pro-american to sellout Canada...

    End of story.

Carolyn Parrish did indeed call them 'idiots' and 'bastards' but last I checked, we had freedom of speech in this country. For how long, who knows, but she (Parrish) was referring to the ruling class of the US who think that they are more entitled to the planet than anyone else. Does this make the liberals Anti-American? HELL NO! For the most part, the liberals kiss Uncle Sam`s ass just as much as the Conservatives! all you have to do is pay attention and see that it is true!

When she called them bastards it was because of their actions at a NATO meeting. The comment was made off the record and apparently echoed the sentiments of everybody else at the meeting.

When she referred to the "coalition of the idiots" she was speaking of those who support missile defense, including George Bush but not excluding her boss Paul Martin or that little anti-Canadian Stephen Harper.

Thats right, remember now, he refused to let everyone know during the last election just who it was that was bankrolling his little adventure.

Thanks Rev. You made my point for me.

Anon has been sucked in by the media into believing something which is not true. Ms Parrish called her 4 co-workers on the NATO comittee 'Bastards'. She called everyone who believes in BMD 'the coalition of the idiots'. She did not call all Americans anything.

So Anon, since you're wrong about this, what else has the media sucked you into believing?

Being an American who regularly visits Canada (mostly Toronto area) and who communicates with several Canadians every single day, to me it is OBVIOUS that there is a strong anti-american sentiment, especially from the Liberal side. It doesn't take a genius to figure out that the Liberals have basically demonized America. I noticed in the last election that if a conservative proposed tax cuts (of any sort), they were demonized as 'american style' tax cuts. Reform health care? That would be 'americanizing' health care. It seemed to me that the winning strategy for the Liberals was to paint the Conservatives as American want-to-bes, and who in their right mind would want ANYTHING resembling America in Canada?

I would go so far as to say that in many of the things I have read and heard coming from the mouths of Canadians, if one were to simply replace the word 'American' with 'black person' or any ethnic or religious group, it would be blatantly racist.

I have gone down this road so many times with my Canadian friends it isn't even funny. It doesn't matter what evidence there is to the contrary, they deny there is any significant amount of anti-americanism in their government or among their populace.

I know many of you will brush this off with a wave of your hand, what would a stupid American know anyhow right? But maybe just a few of you will at least be open to the idea that your lack of objectivity in analyzing yourselves keeps you from seeing what is so blatantly obvious to this American.

Quite frankly, I think if the American populace were aware of the anti-american sentiments so strong in Canada, relations between our two nations would be much, much, worse.

<I>"The concept "anti-American" is an interesting one. The counterpart is used only in totalitarian states or military dictatorships... Thus, in the old Soviet Union, dissidents were condemned as "anti-Soviet." That's a natural usage among people with deeply rooted totalitarian instincts, which identify state policy with the society, the people, the culture. In contrast, people with even the slightest concept of democracy treat such notions with ridicule and contempt. Suppose someone in Italy who criticizes Italian state policy were condemned as "anti-Italian." It would be regarded as too ridiculous even to merit laughter. Maybe under Mussolini, but surely not otherwise."</I> - Chomsky<p>---<br>"George Bush has declared the war on terrorism to be the cause of his generation. The cause of Canadian sovereignty will be ours." - John Godfrey, MP for Don Va

Thanks Westerd Anon....I was just going to say, why is it that no one is calling Harper anti-Canadian. It's a fact is it not?

The country we presently live in is called Canada. Wanting to negativley change some of our fundamental systems such as public health care, exports, ownership, and security is as anti-Canadian as I have ever heard.

I call you a NEOCON Harper, which is anti-Canadian.

Neoconservative – A "neocon" is more inclined than other conservatives toward vigorous government in the service of the goals of traditional morality and pro-business policies. Tends to favor a very strong foreign policy of America as well.
