At the China Fisheries & Seafood Expo 2007 in Dalian, an Atlantic Canada pavilion will raise the profile of the region’s seafood and aquaculture industry and showcase its shellfish and finfish products. The expo is the only international exposition in China dedicated to the seafood industry, drawing a record 700 companies and 15,000 visitors from more than 60 countries in 2006. The Atlantic Canada delegates will also travel to Beijing to tour seafood wholesale and processing operations and meet with potential investors and buyers.
This trade initiative builds on the success of the first ACOA-supported Atlantic Canada trade mission to China in 2006. Contacts made by the Atlantic delegates during that visit generated immediate export sales totalling $1 million.
"China is an important player on both the demand and supply side of the global seafood market. It is imperative that Atlantic Canadian seafood and aquaculture companies to understand the dynamics that China brings to the global seafood supply chain in order to develop their own China strategies,” said Gerard Dominic of the Canadian Manufacturers and Exporters Association. “This ACOA mission which incorporates plant visits, business to business meetings, business networking events and participation in the China Fisheries and Seafood Exposition will assist our companies in the development of their corporate trade and investment strategies to remain competitive in the global marketplace."
