Time To Disband The RCMP

Posted on Monday, November 19 at 14:37 by backstroke
The grotesque killing of Robert Dziekanski is just the proverbial straw on the camel's back. Now that most of us have seen that poor man welcomed to Canada with multiple Taser shocks, we need to look again at the RCMP's last few decades. "We fret about each incident, but ignore the pattern. The Royal Canadian
Mounted Police, like J. Edgar Hoover's FBI, has flourished for over a century on
great media relations. The Mounties look gorgeous on horseback; their
uniforms invoke a raw, comforting masculine power of broad shoulders,
jackboots, and big pistols in big holsters."

Excellent point - it has been this positive image spin that has permitted the
Mounties to "get away with murder."

The author makes another valid point in providing a solution where the
current RCMP officers can join the Provincial Forces. This would mimmick the
American model of fifty different State Trooper Agencies being used for most
law enforcement matters which involve the public. Although, you will still
need a national force (such as the FBI), for federal and inter-provincial
    matters.

Although the RCMP's record has been rather suspect of late, it is the lack of
accountability to anyone but itself which comprimises its effectiveness and
public trust. A group of smaller provincial forces would be more organized,
more cohesive and be able to move quicker than one large National Force.
And since many provincial officers are born and raised in their home
provinces, a provincial force with expanded powers also has the advantage of
"homefield advantage", which should not be underestimated in policing.

In all this, it must be remembered the great majority of RCMP Officers
are outstanding professionals who risk their lives on a daily basis to keep the
country secure. Many of the situations which have arised have probably been
caused by the sheer size of the RCMP. As with anything else, the larger the
beast, the more difficult to tame. Chop the beast up into smaller pieces and
you have more of a fighting chance.

Don`t want to see the RCMP disbanded, due to history and tradition and all that stuff that gets me warm and fuzzy, but I`d like to see the RCMP somehow held to a higher standard and more accountable. And giving them a more local focus would definitely be a good thing. But ultimately, we need the government and the ruling class to ditch their fascist mindset.

My concern is that by disbanding and re-branding we could end up with a much more diabolical organization. What we really need is a clean up from the top down and a return to our roots of policing. The current police ARE NOT OUR POLICE! They serve the government rather than the people. THIS is what needs to change. The same goes for our military. It all mirrors what has happened in the Unites States.

Pretty difficult to disagree with that Chris and i was going to posts something in a similar vein.

something for the horsemen to think about -

If we do not listen to the whispers we will have to listen to the shouts.
