The Fraser Institute Is Now In The Education Business

Posted on Thursday, April 01 at 19:10 by Jim Callaghan
Gerard Kennedy, Ontario Education Minister has an uphill battle to keep kids in the public system.

Let's not forget that Mike Harris is a fellow at the Fraser Institute, and that should be enough explanation to show you who is calling the shots. Very Pro-American, the Fraser Institute is for privatization of everything from health care to education and more.

What a bunch of losers. Let's get our heads on straight and stop them from operating in Canada, after all, they always refuse to tell us who exactly is funding this group of right-wing alarmists.

I guess this is obvious but I honestly cannot stand the Fraser Institute or the CD Howe Insitute; biased as hell and not transparent in the least.

Guess I didnt really say anything constructive, but it needs to be said regardless :)

In that Corporation documentary the director of the Fraser Institute says that we'd all be better off if people or corporations could buy permits for AIR and WATER!! So water and even air should be privatized. He also said that corporations like Nike help the poor in 3rd world countries become "fat and healthy". I think that nonsense speaks for itself. If they're only advocating privatization of education, their flaming communists compared with what Mike Smith or whatever his name is was promoting.

Fraser Institute + 'better' = privatization of the school system.

"Hi Johnny, how was your day at Coca Cola high?" "Well mommy, we were taught that profits come before people, then we learned that Coke is good for you."

Good god, isnt there ANYTHING the far right does not want to emulate from the US? Why dont they just get green cards, its better for everyone.

"Fat and healthy"?? Perhaps that's the case for the one or two local workers who actually make it to a 'management' role, but it's definitely not the case for the average worker.

Are you trying to be funny or what? That sort of thing really happens. Some schools in the USA had their textbooks bought by Exxon, & learned that fossil-fuel emissions don't hurt the environment & other stuff like that.

Well, I say if the Fraser Institute wants to let us be bought out and taught that fossil fuels don't hurt the environment, that's fine with me. First, I just want to see some credible support that they believe it to be true. The way I see it, if fossil fuels don't harm the environment, they must not harm us ('cause we're just animals anyways). So the Fraser Institute + Oil Barons should get together in a small room and burn barrels of oil in there constantly. If they're still around after a couple weeks, they can privatise the schools all they want.

I will vote for your proposition, Kory, if you will include the minister of health and the environment minister in your list of room occupants.

The Fraser Institute is a registered charity under the Income Tax Act. Your tax dollars are basically subsidizing right wing propaganda.

When you read the articles, you can always guess the conclusions. The research methods are dubious and the conclusions are highly questionable.

I believe the Canada Revenue Agency should consider deregistering them for engaging in political activities. The "research" is biased and does do the issues adequate justice.

I think I saw a news item one day that said Michael Jordan earns (?) more money wearing Nike clothing and shoes than ALL the workers that produce them, worldwide.

    Great wages, huh !!

    Advertising rocks ! (I guess.)

The Fraser Institute has always been very closed-mouthed about their funding, and I, among others, have always thought they were getting their funding from corporate donations, because, after all, they are pro corporate in their arguments.

If they are a registered charity, as you say, then there is something wrong with our definition of "charity."

Take them off the list, NOW !!!

Cut off their funding, NOW !!

This is an emotional response. Just so you know.

    Link didn't work for me.

The Fraser Institute with registered charity status? Figured I'd have to see the black and white on that one.

So, I downloaded the CRA's list of registered charities. Low and behold, it's there.

Good to know those who support the Canadian right propaganda tool of choice can be partially subsidized by the taxpayer.

Now there may be 'leftist' propaganda registered charitable organizations as well however, as I don't know of any couldn't search the names.

I wonder if The Canadian Centre For Policy Alternatives has ever applied for this status. I'd willingly subsidize that. Coundn't find their listing at the CRA. Perhaps we could all write a letter to CBC asking them to publicize this bit of info and see if Canadians react. I heard somewhere that the media will respond to a story if more than 10 people write in on the same day about the same issue. Couldn't hurt to try.
