In a faxed letter to the administrative assistant, office of the Vice Dean, Research and Graduate studies, Operations Officer Monika Plettenberg wrote: "A key aspect of our mission is to identify innovative research and technology that has significant potential for homeland, and army capability improvements. "Please bear in mind that many products and technologies are, or become, dual use available to enhance the lives of the public at large while fulfilling important defense and security risks. "Naturally, to meet this requirement, it only makes sense to explore what valuable S&T research resides within universities in order to determine if some collaborative relationships may be established." "A hostile collective of community members and students intends to "disrupt" the army's visit to the University of Toronto,..."

So when do we go to that meeting of concerned Canadians wishing to help end the needless slaughter of thousands of innocent Iraqi civilians currently happening right now as we speak. When and where is that meeting going to be held. When do we get together to "disrupt" that? The endless mass executions of innocent men, women, and children. We don't? Ever? Oh, yes, that's right. The Iraqis aren't real people like us. Their blood is green, or orange, or something, right? Isn't that what us good, self righteous, morally superior Canaidans decided amongst ourselves? Or maybe it just looks that way when you're high all the time. Who knows. Oh, well. It's easy, cheap, and way cool to be a camPuss demonstrator at home isn't it? Safe, and cheap. Just the way we like it here in Canada. But with the money our very own "Power Corporation of Canada" was making off them before we were so rudely interrupted by the yanks, we shouldn't have to worry about expense! Hey. Let's "disrupt" them while drinking champaigne, and munching cavier! We'll take a picnic basket and do them up in style. Like, way cool dudes, right? Maybe we can show up with flowers in our hair too? That'll surely impress the world and force them to sit up, and take notice of us (for something besides skinning baby seals alive in front of their mothers), as serious "peacekeepers" instead of merely giving lip service to the concept! You go!

4Canada, I've been trying to get more information. Not having much luck, I'm going to send a few e-mails and hope I get a reply.

Caution might have been required, I guess! At Rabble, contributor No Yards posted the following regarding this item:

Supposedly the US military is coming to the U of T to push the idea of the university developing military technology. There is a group that will be protesting that meeting this Monday May 2, 2005.
Here is a source with a few more details, but it is written by a right wing flack, so take the article for what it's worth.
I read about this on the you-know-where.ca forum, and one of the people postng about this protest is saying he is considering going to that protest 'and "help" the protesters learn some real life lessons."
Some of the pictures posted and some of the comments made on that thread (and the past history of violent talk from this poster,) have me concerned that this person may be going there to participate in a less than civil manner if you know what I mean.
Anyone participating in this protest should keep an eye out for right wing trouble makers.
Link

Well, at least we now know that Canada Free Press is anything but free! “Independent” my eye! Here goes that “freedom” meme again!

"There is a group that will be protesting that meeting this Monday May 2, 2005."

So you felt you had to post a "slanderizer" a day AFTER the meeting without even bothering to check whether or not it had gone off without a hitch, or there actually was violence. A day AFTER the meeting you post this knowing nothing happened. Get serious. Who's propagandizing/slandering who here?

"Anyone participating in this protest should keep an eye out for right wing trouble makers."

Good grief Charlie Browneye! More appropriately it should be stated "anyone participating in LIFE should keep an eye out for left wing liars, attempting to stir up hatred and create violent confrontations among an otherwise peace loving people."

Whoa. Chill. Peace. Deep breath, now...count to ten using all the fingers and all the toes on your LEFT side...okay, exhale...you'll be alright...feel better yet?

Priceless. Love that loaded language, like: "left wing liars" , and "stirring up hatred". Classic projection.

She/He has got a point though, DL. I should have checked how the meeting went and added the appropriate comment. I did not. I'll be more careful next time.

In which case "he/she" apologizes for the angry commentary, FurGaia. That's me. tossing you a "flaming olive branch" ;). It's not often a person is big enough and honest enough to admit a mistake, and you did, so I have to eat my words now. You appear to be a "cut above" the pure hype crowd. You're okay in my book, (if "my book" matters anyway). Peace.

Ah well! When you're right, you're right! Lesson learned for me.
Peace to you too!
