My understanding is that the voices-for-change website did have potentially dangerous information on it, such as the names and addresses of telus employees. Whether it is actually illegal or not, this is not as one-sided as many people would have you believe.

All Telus did by blocking this site was to make sure it recieved more visitors, as it was released to the press that Telus had blocked this site.

erm, the CIRB ruled that the contract isn't illegal, nor is telus attempt to distribute it to the employees directly, nor was their decision to begin lockouts.

thank you for continuing to perpetuate the cycle of disinformation in this matter.

    Thanks for pointing that out:
The board did find Telus guilty of interfering with the TWU's representation rights and failing to bargain in good faith with respect to not providing information to the union about the approximately 1,500 former Clearnet workers in the East. The CIRB also ordered the company to "make every reasonable effort to enter into a collective agreement."
"The CIRB confirms the lockout measures and the communications we have done are legal," said McArthur. "It's a win for Telus."
from here
In future, you are welcome to post such details yourself.
---
Every time you complain about the moderators, god kills a kitten.

Just a few reasons that one could have their noses out of joint over the TELUS takeover of BCTel and AGT. All profits seem to head up the ladder rather than sharing with the people that keep the company going. Typical Corporate greed. I know TELUS workers that are making less money than they were 10 years ago.

TELUS executives reap huge pay raises
According to TELUS, strong growth in earnings, revenue and cash flow justifies huge increases in salaries. The company reported earnings of $658 million for 2004, compared to $324.4 million in 2003.

    Darren Entwistle (TELUS CEO) Compensation*:
    2003 - $4.25 miillion, 2004 - $6.55 million (54% increase)

George Cope (TELUS Mobility CEO) Compensation*:
    2003 - $3.58 million, 2004 - $6.74 million (88% increase)

    Robert McFarlane (TELUS CFO) Compensation*:
    2003 - $1.3 million, 2004 - 4.05 million (300% increase)
    * all figures include salary and stock options

TELUS's bargaining unit employees wage increases:
    2001 - 0%, 2002 - 0%, 2003 - 0%, 2004 - 0%

Let's face it, Telus is a disgusting company that typifies the "squeeze the serfs for all their worth" while top executives scoop up obscene amounts of compensation for doing just that. It appears that a prime requisite in the corporate suite these days is to be sociopathic or even psycopathic. That way there doesn't need to be the slightest concern for the ordinary folk who catch the angry flak for the golden scum who hide behind a telecommunications fire-wall counting their cash while disregarding the growing anger of the users of an ever less friendly, responsive or efficient monopoly (from the user standpoint). User friendly? Interactive? Hardly.

This is the same company which has been steadily eliminating pay phones under the ruse that they are used to make drug deals. Give me a break. This is a public security issue. For one thing all self respecting drug dealers use cell phones. But lots of poor folks can't get one of those. So they could die in a pool of blood because there isn't a pay-phone to be found. However, this abdication of social responsibilty by Telus is not a surprise; they don't have any.

As a one-time marketing consultant who worked for some large US corporations,(household names,) I saw the same sociopathic behaviours displayed towards employees and customers years ago and the disease has spread north. Telus just happens to be one of the best-known examples in Canada; a Canadian example of corporate thuggery. And our politicians listen to advice from these guys? No wonder the country is going to hell in a hand-basket. It also tells you something about our politicians.

I have never worked for Telus thank God, but my advice to the employees of what was once a great company, is to keep fighting the bullies in thousand dollar suits as long as you can. They may not have any social conscience or sense of responsibility towards their employees, but they understand the bottom line; it's the only thing they understand. A bad year could mean a million or two off their paltry salaries. Wouldn't that be a bleeding shame?

Apparently striking Telus workers have been using the information from that website to go to managers' homes and vandalise their property (I know this first-hand). The blocked site is being used to terrorize telus employees who have *nothing* to do with the contract negotiations nor this dispute; I say that Telus is perfectly within their rights to block a site that is provably dangerous to their own employees. Whether Telus-the-company is acting in bad faith or not, union members are committing illegal acts in response and have lost any sympathy they may have had from me.

Note that TELUS made themove the moment that members petitioned for the TELUS Board of Directors to address the TELUS IDOL tape. Get a look, the bondage scene is most incitful as to TELUS view of how to treat employeees. That is when the CEO is not dancing over a VP who sings on her back to him at the time.
