Cellucci Tells Canada To Sanction US Over Byrd

But he says it's simply a political reality in the United States that it takes a lot of effort and pressure to get Congress to kill existing legislation.

"Getting the Congress to act, and repeal a law that is passed, is not an easy thing to do," Mr. Cellucci told CPAC, Canada's Political Channel, in an interview this week.

"And I suspect that it will take the imposition of sanctions by Canada and other countries to get the Congress to act -- and I think eventually they will act," he said.

Mr. Cellucci's comments come nearly one month after Canada and seven other jurisdictions threatened to slap trade sanctions on the United States for not repealing the Byrd Amendment.

The law allows Washington to funnel to American businesses any cash that is earned from U.S. duties levied on foreign business competitors.

It's true the PResident is hamstrung by congress and the senate. You mean Bush is a globalist too?

I'm sure when the border is opened the naive workers will go back tp thinking that they are "benefitting economcially," as Americans manufacture our lumber into high-priced Ethan Allen furniture.

Slightly off topic, but Byrd is a Democrat and was the former head of the Ku Klux Klan. Dirty Democrats.

Celeryhead is no idiot, he knows Canada and a half-dozen other countries have already been given the go-ahead to slap counter duties on American goods. Why does Celeryhead care? Because the American economy is not that strong and any such event could send it over the abyss.

On August 31, 2004, the WTO ruled that Canada, Brazil, Chile, the European Union, India, Japan, Mexico and South Korea could retaliate by up to 72 percent of the annual anti-dumping and countervailing duties on exports from these countries disbursed to U.S. companies in a given year.

Celeryhead is not acting in Canada's best interest, he is still looking out for his number one. By being seen to support those nations ready to act, the pressure on the US government to do away with the Byrd amendment and thus save his country economic harm may come to pass.

Celeryhead, Roy? I like it...can I steal it?

I'm pretty sure that Celluci is worried about globalization being threatened. It isn't like he or the rest of Bush's extended family care about Americans any more than they care about the rest of the planet. Their concern is dollars, the ones that land in the pockets of their biggest political contributors. Sanctions threaten that.

Yeah, and they also threaten the supply of resources to the war machine.

Celeryhead is something I called him during a protest a couple years back. He certainly took exception to it, as he stopped from getting in his ride to cast me an evil stare.

I think that coupled with an image of him tarred and feathered didn't much make his day out here in Vancouver.
