Two Tier Alberta

Well, the Supreme Court opened the can of worms with its ruling on provinces' responsibility to provide health care for its citizens--even if that meant private health care plans. ("Top court strikes down Quebec private health-care ban.") And now Ralph has announced, wait for it, that he intends to apply this in Alberta as part of his Third Way for Healthcare. That is instead of using the American model of privatization he will use the European/British model of two-tiered health care. Yes, the model of economic efficiency that almost destroyed the British NHS. And if that isn't scary enough for those of you on summer vacation, how about two-tier daycare? Scrap the National Daycare plan the Liberals tried to introduce; Alberta has swung it's own deal for public funding of private-service delivery. I don't know, let's see if Alberta can pull it off, without ruining the healthcare system already in place.

When US health corporations start moving in, our present Medicare system is dead by NAFTA and WTO rules, because it will cut into their profits, therefore they can sue Canada under Chapter 11. This is Klein's whole plan, as a good conservative. They won't do it on the first day, but will wait until they're spread out over the whole country, then, when they have enough clout, they'll lower the boom, as UPS is doing now against Canada Post. I don`t think we should wait and see for anything. I think Canadians across the land have to make their point loudly, and perhaps rudely, that we won`t stand for any privatization of health care! Ottawa and the provinces must be forced into listening, or most of us will simply go broke when we need something like an operation. What are we waiting for? Sometimes, you have to fight for your own rights!!!

Um, ok, then, I guess we`re all just content to watch it crash and burn. You guys can`t all be rich, can you?
