Clarkson Endowment - Wrong Beneficiaries!

Posted on Tuesday, September 27 at 13:23 by whelan costen
Ms. Clarkson was the ceremonial leader of the Canadian Forces, and, as such, ought to be recognizing the sacrifice these individuals, their families and all who used the base have made for the experimental use of Agents Orange, White and Purple. An institute for new Canadians may have more of a palatable appeal; however, an institute for treatment of these victims would be more appropriate. Funding for a complete public inquiry is critical to the survivors’ peace of mind. No public announcement regarding this has been made. Mr. Martin, you do not hold all responsibility in this matter: several Liberals governments, as well as Conservative governments, have been responsible for this inhumane treatment. What you have today is the opportunity to attempt to right a horrific wrong. If you can so easily find $10 million for those who are not yet Canadian citizens, then you most certainly ought to find the funds needed to compensate and treat those who were willing to put their lives on the line for Canada’s freedom. I look forward to a positive response to my request. I expect that Ms. Clarkson would see an endowment for victims of CFB Gagetown more appropriate. Since it is taxpayers’ dollars funding this prestigious award, we ought to be consulted on the matter. Consider this letter my input. Yours truly Catherine Whelan Costen Canadian Action Party, Vice President and Candidate Cc: S.Harper, J.Layton , C.Fogal,G. Duceppe All sitting MP’s, Press Note: I would have cc'd to Governor General but her email is not working. [Proofreader's note: this article was edited for spelling and typos on September 27, 2005]

Yes it is very wrong, it is down right shameful when the Office of the Governor General is turned into a place where Liberal Party parked two their want to be socialite and then honour the out going with an endowment.

If the Prime Minister wants to honour liberal party hacks then he could have at least donated this 10 million he just plucked out of our pockets, to the many food banks across Canada, his liberal party opened up during their time governing this country into the sewer.

Here we have Canadian senior citizens wondering where they will find the dollars to purchase heating oil, or pay their high electric bill this winter or if they have enough left over to cover the cost of their medication and this Liberal Party are tossing our tax dollars around as if they are getting it out of the party slush fund.

Catherine Costen you are bang on with this, the only thing wrong is you hit them with a feather duster, you should have clobbered the hell out of these thives.

This Office of the Governor General is one of the biggest waste of tax dollars and should be terminated. If these political parties want to spend our tax dollars on welfare cases like this Office, then please give it to the needy , not the greedy.

Chapeau! I like the DD tone to this. These people need to get a handle on their egos. Educating the citizens to participating in their democracy is however a worthwile thing. But starting it this way is guaranteed to screw it up big times. Look what happens to many other good deeds: foreign aid, bilingualism and multiculturalism, ending the two solitudes, etc...

All being paid for out of the pockets of the tax payers of Canada , while our very own starve and freeze and I mean our seniors who built this country and its infrastructure.
This is not a democracy , that word is a myth, which the elite socialites tossed out there so they could steat us blind and get away with in leaglly... after all they draft up these laws which make it all possible for them to do so.

Christ did you forget the Ad Scandal already? No gaulius democracy is not alive and well.... we have lost control of our "government" to a bunch of white collar crooks. The media has been one of the driving forces behind these crooks, and if it were not for the internet we would truly be screwed. Wake up

This makes me sick, add in the Endowment and all the other waste, my god is there an end to our stupidity ? Please ! Please do not tell me that this is what DEMOCRACY is all about?

Democracy does not work all that well because people do not engage into it. People do not engage into it because the system promotes apathy and consumerism while it discourages citizens for getting involved. I think education on democracy (e.g. its limitations, funding of political parties, the role of special interest groups, the role of medias, etc...) should help. I do agree that it is not however sufficient.
Keep in mind that people in Europe read on average 3-4 papers a day and the content discussed is a different level of magnitude. A more informed citizen will lead to a more functional democracy IMHO. The public broadcaster should also better inform the citizens. It is doing that less and less.

Unless it was aired, this would occur without our knowledge. Because the facts are out in the open it will still occur but enshrouded with bureaucracy. What will Canadians do in this democratic society? Forget about it as soon as it becomes old news. Canadians are good about complaining about fresh news but seldom act upon it once it becomes old. Politicans have and always will defend their actions once in the limelight but know the voters have a very short memory. NEXT!
