Peterson Optimistic

Posted on Thursday, May 11 at 08:27 by Anonymous
It is the first time the protesters have established a presence north of the river that cuts through traditional Six Nations territory. But Peterson feels he's already established rapport with native leaders as he heads back to the table. "We've made some headway. I feel positive, but this isn't over yet," he said on the weekend as he assessed his first week at the negotiation table. This is another example of how fear of being politically incorrect prevents our government from doing its job. Stephen Harper should have sent the army in to clear this mess ages ago.

The natives at Caledonia have a very weak claim and are committing crimes such as trespassing, public mischief, arson, threats, assault and so forth....I can't say I'm Egyptian I want my pyramid back, they shoudl get over it.

I don't agree with your analysis of the situation Perturbed. I think an independant committee should be established to investigate the claims of all parties. As the dept of Indian affairs (or whatever they call themselves now) is supposed to look after aboriginal properties, the government may find itself liable for damages suffered by all the parties involved. The government does not have an arms length relationship and should not send in soldiers to impose the government will on the natives. Lets do this right for a change. Let's pretend that we have a modicum of integrity.

I thought your reference to the pyramids was not up to your usual standards of wit.

"(they) are committing crimes such as trespassing, public mischief, arson, threats, assault and so forth"

I cannot help but agree, this is the second time they have escalated things by extending the "ocupied" area and blocking public highways, this latter one being while Peterson was trying to resolve the issue. It seem they are much more interested in creating a confontation than in comming to any kind of resoulotion.
I must question whether a blockade by Strikers or Farmers or other segments of society would be alowed to progress to this point without action.

Just cause some guy is "trying" to solve the situation is no reason to stop the protest. It should be a relatively easy matter to determine whether or not the aboriginals were ceded the land and it should be an easy matter to determine whether or not they sold it. Waiting years and years while white folks develop the land and men of "great integrity" ponder whether or not the indigenous inhabitants have any rights is silly.

Notice how the white folks want instant action on the part of the natives but want the natives to wait forever for more reviews of the situation. Thats fair, not!
