If you do not show up, then you are recorded as a no-show. Your record shows that you did not vote.
The thing that matters is that you appear to be voting. The fact that your vote, if you choose to spoil it, counts in the total of the votes counted.
That is what makes the difference of showing up and being counted as one that has voted.
