UK Sailors/Marines Captured At Gunpoint By Iranian Military

She added that she had called for a "full explanation" from Iran and had left them in no doubt that she wanted the group and their equipment back immediately. We understand that they were in two boats that were operating in Iraqi waters Margaret Beckett, Foreign Secretary The task force's commander, Commodore Nick Lambert, said he was hoping there had been a "simple mistake" over territorial waters. "There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that they [British personnel] were in Iraqi territorial waters. Equally, the Iranians may claim they were in Iranian territorial waters. "We may well find that this is a simple misunderstanding at the tactical level." Helicopters had reported seeing two British boats being moved along the Shatt al-Arab waterway to Iranian bases and there had been no evidence of fighting, he added. "We may well find that this is a simple misunderstanding ...."

Oh yes! A "simple" misunderstanding. Iran says they were in Iranian waters and the Brit's say they weren't. The USA and Britain adamantly declair that they are keeping a close eye on Iran but Britain now states it's the shipment of illegal vehicles they are concerned with. It is so simple!

The last time Iran tried these shennannigans, they released the sailors unharmed - but never returned the ship.

I hope they realize they are picking on Royal Marines. I can almost hear the airstrikes taking off now . . .

The last time we heard this bullshit it was Israel complaining about Lebanon kidnapping its soldiers who just happened to be invading Lebanese territory. I guess some of us don't know a recurring pattern when we see one. They can fool some of the people all the time but the rest of us are not going to stand around and watch in amazement anymore.

I have to agree Milton, the pattern is clear. I was talking with my Mom yesterday and I was saying how frustrating it is that know one much has a memory longer than a minute and they can't seem to connect the dots go back and review past information and re-evaluate that info and make the most basic judgments on the accuracy of the information they are accepting as gospel. "Iran is a nuclear threat" is just the new "Iraq has WMD", and the "kidnapped british marines", IS indeed just more of "Lebanon kidnapped Israeli soldiers". They don't even vary the script, just shuffle alleged victims and bad guy villians. More patterns are that twice we had screaming headlines about terrorist arrests in both in Canada and Britain on the same day but not part of a joint investigation. Just coincidental timing, what are the odds? These far from random events, at not at all random intervels, with timing that always benefits the current global aggressors (reads US and it's puppet minions) at least ten times more than the "supposed" bad guy terrorists, just coincidentally leads the "heroes" in exactly the invasionary direction that they have been publically persuing for months leading up to the "incident". Wow you couldn't get things to work out better if you planned it that way!! The monumental shampoo and toothpaste airport scare was a diversionary gem. Within the same week as the global opinion against the Israeli aggression into Lebanon was reaching a concensus against Irael, we wake up the next day to the most outrageous airport travel imposition in the name of security story imaginable, and because it is so outrageous it dominates the number one media slot and flushes the Israeli/Lebanon story away and cools the growing concensus. The great Sampoozle bamboozle, rides the number one spot for long enough to work out the kinks this assault has on air travellers, and of course allows the necessary cool down time for the bad feelings towards Israel. Mission accomplished.

I have little doubt that those sent in were told exactly where to go.

Anyway, who said that the borders in their GPS and maps had to be accurate as to the exact position of the Iranian border?

For the sake of some other hidden purpose, it would make better sense if they were not.

The captured troops would then be innocent of deliberately crossing into Iranian territory, because as far as their maps etc. were concerned, they didn't.

And chances are, if it did happen that way, the captured troops wouldn't have been informed simply because they "didn't need to know".

A subtle shift of a couple hundred feet here or there, and presto, instant provocation, along with plausible deniability.

    It's what I'd do.

"I can almost hear the airstrikes taking off now . . ."

Yeah, they are looking for any excuse no matter how pathetic and obviously staged to kick of another war of conquest in the region.

I sure hope the Iranians have acquired serious military hardware from the Chinese and Russians. I hear the Russians have a missile that can take out aircraft carriers, that would be awesome to see happen! Without aircraft carriers, the US cannot wage war in the region, and all that'll be left at their disposal are nuclear bombings - but that would also fry precious Israel, so it won't ever happen.

I am becoming familiar enough with your writing
to know (i hope) that this isn't the heart of you RG.
What would be awesome to see is a world wide epiphany where "all g*d's children"... but then that would only be more fairtale stuff.

RG, the US can easily wage war in the region without carriers.

All they'd need to do is use NATO bases instead.

Besides, have you ever ever heard of a US battleship called the USS Maine?

    Look it up.

"(i hope) that this isn't the heart of you RG."

I learned at an early age that when all else fails the best way to deal with a bully is to break his head open at the first opportunity. Sorry, but that's what I discovered worked well enough for me - tried and true. Due to my experiences and make up (or whatever reason), I'd rather fight to the end than be constantly worried about some idiot stalker attacking me.

I know full well that the kids on those US ships are abused victims of a devilish military indoctrination system. Most of those who commit mass murder under the banner of "soldier" end up being ruined for life. No matter, I'd rather see every last soldier dead than see them unleashed on an innocent population. What soldiers do is extremely disgusting, and whatever means is used to "neutralize" them is OK in my book. Of course, I'd prefer to see them all come to their senses and realize who their enemy really is, but that's just wishful thinking. The soldier and warfare religions go back many centuries and it's a very tough nut to crack, successfully resisting all efforts at its destruction up to this point in time.

I was thinking that perhaps if the Iranians are able to sink US ships in self defense with enough ease, then perhaps the crazies in the US gov will think twice about an escalation, but as you are suggesting I too doubt it. I am familiar with the USS Maine, and you are correct in pointing the event out, the US government would probably love to have the Iranians sink one of their ships.

As for NATO, we've seen some breakdown with US control, Afghanistan is not a model of cooperation and NATO stayed out of the invasion of Iraq. NATO comes together only when there's enough of a common selfish reason for it (or enough bribes), so who knows what will happen should the US decide to bomb Iran. I suspect something is holding the crazies back. It could be the mess in Iraq/Afghanistan, or they are still trying to bribe Russia and China to stay out of the war. Who knows.

One theory I read about is that the Iranian "conflict" is just a ruse, designed to keep fear and paranoia going strong while billions of tax dollars are funneled into the military industrial complex. The Iranian government stands to gain from such a ruse as well, generating a fearful population begging the government for effective military protection. Don't forget, in the not so distant past the Iranian gov has colluded with the US in sneaky ways while the two behaved openly as mortal foes.

  11. Tue Mar 27, 2007 11:24 pm
I think we all know what would happen if Iran sank a US carrier.

Iran would be turned into a puddle of melted sand you could see from space.

And funny. I don't seem to recall such a hubbub when US soldiers arrested Iranian officials in Iraq.

    Funny how that is.

It's too close to Israel for that to happen.

This is why the US is developing a new nuclear device, that can be shot into the ground to hit underground bunkers. The device will produce extremely dirty, but extremely localized, fallout.

I hadn't thought about Israel's proximity, though. I'd say that they are just crazy enough to try it, using small devices and hitting targets that are mostly downwind.
