Where Is Democracy?

Posted on Tuesday, December 20 at 06:30 by RayB
Our election system might be seen as being democratic but is a process democratic if it goes against the Charter of Right and Liberties of "the people"? It is clear that in our Charter of Rights and Liberties, we are (in theory) all equal under the same law and so forth... But by not treating all parties equally, by giving unequal coverage by media, and worse... by ignoring what those parties are demanding (that is equal treatment), the leaders of the major parties are not respecting our own Charter. From Paul Martin's own words, he is not fitted to occupy that job... he respects the Charter for Same-sex unions but does not support the Charter when it comes to something as fundamental as the election system of Canada. The old parties have shown that all they want is Power to Rule over the People. This seems to be a modern for of dictatorship... we vote for our next dictatorial government. This is clear because, in dictatorial regime, the public media is under strict control by the governing body. They will wisely filter the information to gain advantages over other parties. For example, why the major parties and TV consortium won't allow the small registered political parties to receive the same medium coverage than them? As we know, vote is money for all parties since the new law on election was passed. Each vote puts 1.75$ in their bank accounts. If they were to give more coverage to the small registered parties, they would certainly loose money because it is clear that the Canadian People are fed up with our governing bodies. The vote turnout has been going to Hell and we end up with minority governments, one after the other. They know very well that if they were to give more coverage to the small parties they will loose votes, money and power (over the people) because some of those small parties have good solutions and ideas that people would vote for, thus dilution of the votes. By giving equal representation to all parties they might even go straight to extinction. And the extinction of those parties would mean the end of the support from certain corporations... no power... no money... no support. So many fundamental questions are at stake. There are so many questions to be answered. Here's another one; can we get democracy back in Canada? Is it too late? Only "the people" of Canada can really decide that but then again, they need to know the truth. But the truth won't come out if we always vote for the same old and deceiving parties. There are not too many parties that has Democracy in their Platform. In fact, Democracy does not stop at the election of "representatives". It is clear that once the election process is over, so is democracy. Our say stops there. But it does not have to be like that. We as a people must take back what is ours, Canada! Democracy is not in Ottawa but within each one of us. We need to let them know that we want it back badly.

I will speak to how the word democracy is abused here in Nova Scotia . For example over the years my mother , farther and my grandparents were dumb downed to believe that political parties were the real and only answer to a democratic society. Well it sure is a good thought , but in reality it not practiced as the meaning of “democracy “, is displayed in the many dictionaries, in reality “democracy “ really means “ oligarchy” , government by and for the very few.

Nova Scotia is being raped and pillaged every single day by the business community and the large “government unions” , if it is not the business community draining away our public infrastructure coffers we have the :government unions” whom have the same sense of entitlement, the political parties have grown to believe they should have.

Then again what was once the peoples “government” has been high-jacked by either business community or “government” unions. It is time we returned some sense of accountability and responsibility to the House of Commons and our provincial legislatures .

We have only one tax payers in Nova Scotia and when the Halifax Regional Municipality Council and Fred MacGillivray make the statement , “all three levels of government will be putting into the pot to cover the very large cost of the Common Wealth Games “ , really , then what they are saying, is we the taxpayers of Nova Scotia will be faced with an increase in our taxes by all three level of “government” to cover the expense.

While we lose our Public Health care system due to the lack of staff , doctors and equipment to service the ill, while we watch a growing aging population who are faced with a growing need for senior care facilities, people like Fred MacGillivray and his friends in the business community , bleed away the very dollars needed to maintain this public infrastructure , we the tax payer who will need that care are being denied the services we were told our taxes were going to be applied. It is time we sent there high-jacker’s a message.

We all should tired of paying taxes and watching our public elected using these dollars to finance some of these who hold membership in the Chamber of Commerce and the Board of Trade. I am tired of watching our tax dollars make an elite group or more to the point a few who feel they are entitled to drain away those taxes we are being bill to maintain a much need public health care and other such programs.

I suggest you look we all look into just who these people are that come asking for our votes , before we send them into a position they will hold until the next election, so far we have been blind sided , the very people we send to Ottawa have not been working for us , but instead they have been working to secure their peers position , lawyers, doctors and unionist have fared out pretty dam good, while we the little people (middle class ) are forced to cover the cost , those parasites mentioned tend to eat very well.

There is not one reason why Canadians cannot maintain or for that matter improve our public health care infrastructure , other than the fact we have been putting the wrong people in the position of power, lets face it , William Black wants to be the next leader of the Conservative party leader here in Nova Scotias and Mr. Black come from a very high up position in the Insurance industry.. Martin MacKinnion wants to get elected as the next representative for Halifax in Ottawa , he is a businessman who operates a private service related to health care.
We have a new private health care clinic in Dartmouth , which has just hired 4 nurses away from a bleeding public health care system, keeping in mind this clinic is funded by the insurance industry and the Nova Scotia Workers Compensation Board, which does a lot of business with Martin MacKinnion’s health care service here in Nova Scotia …. So who do you think is going to win the race to set up a two tiered health care system if either of these two men , Black or MacKinnion get in a position of elected power ?

Time to think outside that party structure and stop giving these private clubs your vote or your money .

I do not believe that the situation is as bad as Wayne sees it. You can work within some political parties provincially to get things done for ordinary people if you are willing to do the work. I have seen the results of what can be accomplished.

If your provincial constituency is not getting its fair share that is because you do not have a good riding association on the government side with people working for the good of their community. If people do not become involved in the parties then by default what you suggest will happen.

No party elite likes activist members. What they want is dutiful followers. However, they need those people to do the work when the elections roll around. If they ignore the ridings when the next election rolls around the members will suddenly have all kinds of other things they need to do and not have the time to do the work. Smart riding associations can have a great deal of positive influence if they want it.

I have the same concern that the Commonwealth Games will drain resources away from the needs of the community should they be awarded to Halifaz. It will be particularly important to make sure that does not happen.

I also do not believe that Bill Black has much chance of ever becoming premier. Outside of Halifax he comes across as too much of the corporate executive putting forth the corporate spin. There is a perception beyond the elite urban environment that success in business is not necessarily a ticket to success in politics.

Here is an interesting question, it is well known now that the fascist american government will nuke Iran, they are now warning countries like Turkey to prepare for this

so when this happens, and when the fascist american government declares MARTIAL LAW, what happens to Canada ???

We are now going into elections, and we have our politicians promising us canadians the world and eager to spend our hard earned tax dollars on these grand promises, but what happens during MARTIAL LAW, we will not also have MARTIAL LAW in Canada, and do all these grand election promises just go away with the excuse that MARTIAL LAW is now in affect ???

I strongly believe our canadian politicians know this is coming and are decieving the canadian people.....another indication of MARTIAL LAW , coming, which has our Canadian general Hillier wanting to arm Canada for war...........

i believe we as canadians are being duped, and that everything changes, all the rules, when MARTIAL LAW comes.....
You cannot deny the fact that less than 2% of the voting population belong to political parties... and it is a fact that when you break that 2% down between the parties that means even a lower number of the voting population have high jacked the government for their very own gain. Did you forget about the Liberal rifght to entitlement already and god only known if it were the Conservatives or the NDP running the ship, they too would feel that their membership had the right to entitlement.

Canadian politics has become very dirty and it has been proven that trhe bottom feeders are alive and doing very well within the party system.
Please I do not need to read anything to know that we in Canada have been screwed out of this thing called a democratic society.
Government or what use to be government belongs to a very few and we are the idiots who keep giving these bustards permission to rip us off every time we return a party to power.

I really think people are either very stupid or just to lazy to reflect of Canadian political party history, if they did and if they were able to think on their own , we would have cleaned up this sewer we call politics and run these parties out of Ottawa and our provincial legislatures.

I can only hope that when you are in the voting station, that you draw a big "X" through all the candidates on the ballot and write on it NONE OF THE ABOVE. By doing this we will have sent a message to these liars and crooks who use the party system to fill their pockets.

Like I said listen to the interview on the CBC The Current and hear two sitting senators tell how this party system works.

You will hear one senator telling the interviewer that Doctors , Lawyers and Accountants and more professionals are need in the party system and then you will hear Senator Hugh Segal tells the interviewer Anna, that without the grassroots members these professional would never get elected. SO YOU TELL ME WHOM THE FOOLS ARE? , could it be grassroots or the Professionals like these Doctors, Lawyers and Accountants the Senator claims we need more of?

Could these professional be the reason our Health Care System is under attack and could they be the reason our infrastructure dollars are being bleed away to the private sector from where they come?

Keep in mind , Pigs will even eat their own .

So Democracy is really dead then... :(

I like this one from Burke: ""The great instrument of all these changes and what infuses a particular venom into all of them is Party. It is of no consequence what the principles of any party, or what their pretensions are; the spirit which actuates all parties is the same, the spirit of ambition, of self-interest, of oppression and treachery. This spirit entirely reverses all the principles which a benevolent nature has erected within us; All honesty, all equal justice, and even the ties of natural society, the natural affections. In a word, we have all seen...we have some of us felt such oppression from the Party Government as no other tyranny can parallel."

So according to all of the present Party platforms, the "Canadian Action Party" should really be called the "Canadian People Party" since it is the only party that wants to give back Democracy to Canada, or in a way for, to form one and unique Party... "The People Party". If it ever happen then Pure Democracy, in its original form, will be alive again. And that will be a real example to the World.

For years these political parties have used a tax system to bank roll the few. I am sick of these bullshitting liars who have not one thread of respect for we the vast majority of voters who do not belong to these criminal political gangs, keep in mind that is 98% of the voting population.

I have requested that NONE of these political parties step foot on my property, I will not let them contaminate my home with their self serving bullshit again.

Canada and we will all be much better of the sooner we stop supporting these legalized criminal gangs. Just for example , if the Hells Angles were to have stolen the amount of money the Liberal Party of Canada did, they would have been charged, lost their property and taken before the courts... but if this were to happen in CANADA to any of these god dam corrupt liberals.. most likely the court would be a Liberal court and they would be set free.. the same goes for any of these political parties here in Canada.

So, once again .. tell them to go to hell and do not give your time and your money they get enough of your taxes thanks to this Liberal law that makes it all possible for them to pick our pocket legally now.

    Democracy is a MYTH
    Freemarket is a MYTH
    Human Rights are a Myth
A Just Society is a Myth

All thanks to these self serving political parties. Remember pigs really will eat their own!!

Not that I do not agree with you WC, may I ask though what it is you plane to do as a result of your sickness of?
(I see your passion and respect it so no offence is intended)
That which I choose to post is not for the benefit of the chior. OK?

  11. Wed Dec 21, 2005 12:57 am
Well since you asked, but first let me say that I feel as if I am responding to a faceless person. But never the less I was really quite sick during all those years I felt the need to depend on the party system to think for me.

But I have since cured my self of that weakness and made a decision that you have not been able to do on your own,,,, and that is to tell the political parties to stay to hell away and to look for a new dummie, which I see they have found.

I am a slow learner, but onething for sure I am much faster than you.

My plan is to see these political parties driven into the ground and for Canadians from coast to coast to coast to step outside the political party they have been following for years and refuse to support them, thus giving Canada a chance to remain Canada and a nation that binds together all of its citizens based on real democratic principals and openess. A society that has as it goal respect for all humanity and this great planet we have been privledged to live upon.
It is time we started to think and protect this earth for the future generations and it is time to stop this abuse of power which the party system has stolen away what was once the people "government" to move forward for all.

Keep it simple stupid and keep your money in your pocket and give your time to your family and not these political parties, by doing so they will fade away and we just might get to reform Canada's politics.

You have ever right to post as you see fit and you have the right to pick your own chior, but lets hope they are not all named Anonymous and all are faceless.

Keep in mind pigs will really eat their own!!

You know if you were to listen to what wayne is saying and do a little research, you will see how Canada lost it's direction and you will learn that the establishment uses the the party syaten to feather their own nest.

We are being lied to and we are wtong to think that the party system has all of Canada best interest at heart.. to think this is to not think and this is what the establishment want.

Wayne is right, the time has come to stop funding and giving our time to these parties.
Maybe without our support they will clean up and move forward for all Canadians and if they do not, then we can only how they self distruct.

You are so right on the money Wayne.
