The Just Say "NO" Campaign

I also know that there are lots of people out there working hard to try to get some real election and government reforms. But those governments are not listening (for their good reasons), they won't even pass a referendum on the elections ballots. This is why I suggest that people get together and make our own referendum on our ballots, for the Coalition of Canadian Citizen (CCC) to just say "NO" on our voting ballots. No "x"s, no blank... just "NO" across the ballot. I bet if we can get the message across there will be more than the expected less than 60% expected turnout that day. I bet that all those people that won't bother to go voting might actually go the booths just to write NO on their ballot. People are FEDUP with the Canadian System. Who wants to lead the way? By raising 1$ per person we could have a hell of a media campaign. Just Say "NO" on Election Day. This could also be an "Action Item" on Vive Le Canada.

Sorry to say, but by voting NO you help entrench the big four parties. Want change? Vote for one of the parties that is serious about changing the way we vote. Until one of those parties is elected in strong enough numbers, the ndp, liberals, cons and bloq have no incentive to change anything, for the system works just fine for them.

Voting no to change the system is the single worst thing that you can do.

I have to agree with the anon. Spoiling your ballot is useless. If you must, take your ballot, return it to the elections officer saying exactally: "I return this in protest." *Then* and only then will it count in the official results.

But, wouldn't it be more prudent to vote for the party that will effect change in the corruption we see?

Vote for one of the parties that is serious about changing the way we vote.<<

Which party is that? Is there realy a party that feels that as a party they would be willing to leave the "party" system?

That is especially true with election financing reform. Those small parties need every vote they can get as it equals money, and money is what makes elections go around.

I plan to spoil my ballot this election.
The political system in Canada is not very democratic when the people we elect to represent us always stands behind their party line. It doesn't matter what the people want.
The Prime Minister has too much power. He decides which of his friends will be given all those high paying government jobs. He appoints the Senators to the upper house. He decides when to call an election when it is most favourable to his party. His party then decides who will be the next unelected Prime Minister.
Prime Minister Trudeau said we have to pay our politicians more money in order to attract the very best. Instead we have attracted greedy and self serving politicians. Give me back those poor but dedicated politicians anyday. At least we could trust them.
After 60 odd years of listening to the lies, and political cheating by our elected members, I am very disillusioned with our political system. This election I am spoiling my ballot in protest.
