Quebec Conservatives Calling For Harper To Step Down

Posted on Wednesday, September 14 at 13:36 by whelan costen
Senior party officials dismissed the move as an insignificant push by only four Quebecers and said their leader will stay on to fight the Liberals. But the authors of a statement calling for Harper's resignation said they're tired of seeing their party competing with the NDP and the Green Party in the province. "We will never win the next election," said the statement released Tuesday. "Harper will resign afterward, it's certain. But why wait for the elections? Wouldn't it be better for him to leave now? "We have ample time to find a new leader before the next election." The statement said Harper was a good transitional leader but showed little interest in Quebec. > four Quebecers.

Oh, they're Quebecers! That explains why they must be listened to: it means they count for at least 10000 Ontarians, or 500000 Albertains.

If Harper leaves the ConServative Party, who do you think he will join, the Liberal or the Bloc? After all politicans these days are pretty much like a hockey player who has become a free agent. That is right, show him / her the money and they will trade to any party, if the perks are OK.

From the conservative.ca policy declaration pages:

    "29. Foreign Ownership Restrictions
The Conservative Party supports relaxing foreign ownership rules on Canadian industry in concert with our major trading partners in the telecommunications, broadcast distribution, and airline industry. We will conduct an immediate review to determine whether to reduce or completely remove these rules."

    "37. Long-Term Energy Framework
The Conservative Party believes that Canada has a natural economic advantage due to an abundance of fossil fuels, an abundance of hydro power generation, some of the world’s best wind regimes and other renewable and non-renewable sources. The Conservative Party will develop a renewable and non-renewable energy framework which takes into account outstanding obligations and which will meet our long-term requirements for domestic consumption and export. The Conservative Party believes that strengthening energy market integration will ensure greater reliability of energy supplies across Canada. A Conservative Government will explore ways to reduce barriers to the movement of energy products across provincial and other borders."

Just a sampling. Read their policy declarations, the old PC -sounding stuff sells better and goes first, with the Alliance punch line tucked in at the end and obfuscated so as to make it seem palatable to "conservatives" elsewhere in Canada who might want to conserve different things. And "other borders" ?? Which "other borders"? Greenland? Isle St. Pierre? And "our major trading partners"? You know, all those "partners" we trade with. Why, this policy statement could refer to any one of our many major trading partners, right?

Either lose these disingenuous plurals, state your actual policy goals and take your lumps you deceitful snakes, or give the real PCs their party back. All this nudge-nudge-wink-wink is his gang's sorry contribution to the platform, not to mention another probable liberal victory. This is why Harper has to go, and I find it hard to believe "easterners" or Quebecois have some special extrasensory ability to discern this.
