Israeli Anti-War Protesters Ignored By Media

Posted on Wednesday, July 19 at 15:07 by Sgt_ShockNAwe
“Yes to Peace,” “Stop the War Monstrosity,” “Say No to the Brutal Bombardments on Gaza” and “Our Children Want to Live” were among the calls from the mixed crowd of Jewish and Arab demonstrators organised by several Israeli anti-war groups. They also accused Prime Minister Ehud Olmert and Defence Minister Amir Peretz of murdering children and carrying out war crimes in complicity with American policy. The slogans included “Olmert Agreed With Bush: War and Occupation” and “Peretz, Don’t Worry, We’ll be Seeing You at The Hague.” For all the claims of democracy in Israel, the rally received almost no coverage in the local and international media and was dispersed by police within two hours. Police arrested three protesters, claiming they were holding a demonstration without a permit. http://www.wsws.org/articles/2006/jul2006/isra-j18.shtml [Proofreader's note: this article was edited for spelling and typos on July 21, 2006]

<p> Oops! OK, I'm doing a cut & paste: <p> From Sabbah’s blog, <a href="http://sabbah.biz/mt/archives/2006/07/19/facts-about-israel-the-media-isnt-telling-you-2/">"Facts about Israel the media isn’t telling you"</a> … <p> … and other important developments: a letter from Israeli peace activist Uri Avnery as well as an interview with Karen Abu Zeid, head of the United Nations Refugee Works Agency, on the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. <p> <b>Warning</b>: His site has graphics at the top, which can be put on "Pause" though if too distressing. <p> P.S. Thanks for the warning! :-)

Israel also has the media onside, portraying them as the victim in all of this.

That's an awesome picture, Jeff, and I completely agree with the first protester's sign,

But I thought we were discussing Israeli protesters and how they are not getting any media coverage.

Of course the MSM is going to show a bunch of angry muslims screaming about destroying Israel, it plays right into the racist propaganda machine that all dark-complexioned bearded men have a time bomb under their jacket. Better chase them down and shoot them in the head.

Right on SGT. My thoughts exactly. I won't be offended by that protest sign. I'm more offended by war apologists who continually support whatever military aggression comes along, and find the collateral damage to innocent civilians as perfectly acceptable, because the cause is just. The CAUSE was first 911, and then WMD, and the reasons keep changing as they in turn are proven false. Truth is enduring only spin has to evolve to fit changing conditions. This ATTACK on Lebanon, is no more justified a defensive response to the incident which is said to have "called" for it, than the invasions of Iraq or Afghanistan. All perpetrated by true agressors, with false claims of victimhood supported by by a MSM which on the big ticket items is irrelevant, due to it's failure at impartiality. On my local news a lawyer, who's parents are still in Lebanon had reported that Grain elevators were being blown up. Yeah sure they had to blow up a grain elevator to defend themselves. And the roads and the airports. It a sad measure that the lies aren't even barely credible anymore. The MSM headlines are about the equivalent of a talking head eating a steaming pile of dog doo on camera while explaining how wonderful a chocolate cake it is. It it further measure of how far we have sunk as Canadians that Canadians in Lebanon do not even warrant a request of cease fire until they can be evacuated, but instead the very action which has killed and threatens Canadian citizens is endorsed by Harper. Supporting the US/Israeli coalition is more important to Harper than the lives of Canadian citizens. Priorities have been made perfectly clear to us at this point.

Yeah, Hezbollah should be allowed to fire rockets in to Israel. Good stuff.

Who the hell do those Israelis think they are? I mean hey, if Hezbollah is clever enough to cross a U.N.-delineated international frontier to attack Israel, kill soldiers and take hostages, then good on ‘em!

Jeff, re-read that sign. It says Islam will destroy the terrorist state of Isreal. It did not say destroy the state of Israel. Israel first needs to dismantle its infrastructure of state sponsored terrorism for their to be peace.

I can't remember if I was watching CNN or CTV a few nights ago, but it showed women in Israel holding a protest to stop the attacks. You would have missed it if you blinked, but at least it was aired.

Thanks for the link FurGaia, I'll post it at my blog. I know what you mean about having the nerve to post certain articles or opinions, I've been holding back a few editorials from the Asia Times for the same reason. I have only been posting headlines, and I notice that the most traffic I get is from government and PR firms. Kind of creeps me out :)
