U. S. Ambassador "Way Out Of Line": Harper

Posted on Tuesday, August 30 at 13:40 by 4Canada
Canada objected strenuously after Washington announced it would ignore a NAFTA ruling on softwood lumber in Canada's favour. "I think the U.S. ambassador is way out of line," said Harper, who attended a Ukrainian Festival parade in Toronto today with Edmonton MP Peter Goldring. "But a big part of the reason this has happened is the Liberal government has allowed communications with the Americans to break down entirely." The softwood quagmire, which began in 2001, revolves around expensive duties placed on Canadian softwood lumber exports to the U.S. On Friday, Prime Minister Paul Martin said the Canadian reaction to the dispute has thus far been firm and demonstrates the government's commitment to deal with the dispute on the basis of facts. Harper said that while he makes no excuses for the ambassador's comments, it is now up to the prime minister and his government to respond and take stronger action. "The prime minister should be calling the president," he said. "He should be calling him now to make sure this is being dealt with at the highest levels." http://www.thestar.com/NASApp/cs/ContentServer?pagename=thestar/Layout/Article_Type1&c=Article&cid=1125138450117&call_pageid=968332188492&col=968705899037&t=TS_Home&DPL=IvsNDS%2f7ChAX&tacodalogin=yes [Proofreader's note: this article was edited for spelling and typos on August 31, 2005]

Your wrong. They are both asses. Just because Harper wants to brag "If i was PM my lips would be welded to George Bushes ass, so there would be no delay in discussion of the issue" Give me a break. Truth is, they are both sell out assholes, who should be fed to a pack of ravenous, rabid carnivorous beavers as punishment for their treachary, on Martins case, and rabid desire to be a traitor, if he only had the power, in the case of Harper. They both make me sick.

Harper is correct; the US Ambassador is out of line for stating the obvious. He should be more sensitive to Canadian biases and the fact that the Canadian media and Liberal politicians hate it when someone states the obvious.

Didn't take long to get upset with the new American ambassador. Only a short time ago Canadians were mad with the former ambassador. Their job is get across a message and just because we are overly sensitive doesn't matter much. Their only doing their job. Canadian government and regular citizens can have an very ugly mouth considering our neighbour but when they just mention something politely they go all Canadian. Best to keep away from much of this Canadian stuff. Me thinks Canadians are just going through the silly season and best take it for the comedy it deserves.

The point you may have missed is that we ARE Canadian! We don't have to "go all Canadian".

What is the message the USAmbassador is required to "get across"? That like the unending wars they choose to fight we too have to fight an endless war over softwood lumber and love doing it? Misguided I'd say.

What exactly does Harper want? He says phone Bush but don't do any negotiating. Wasn't his big complaint about Martin during the election that Martin was Mr. Dithers? What's Harper asking him to do if not dither?

Like I stated on the post, Bush will not negotiate until we give away the trees and the land they're standing on. That is all the US will accept. Canadians cannot accept that. But, Martin should be put on a 24/7 watch because knowing him he's likely saying they're suing the US government and making the giveaway call at the same time.
