"Everyone should expect to be treated fairly," McLellan said Monday. "By implementing this initiative, the CBSA will be strengthening its accountability to all Canadians and visitors." The agency is also promising to respect the privacy rights of individuals. http://cnews.canoe.ca/CNEWS/Canada/2005/07/11/pf-1126402.html

    I know alot of people that have had the required proper papers, pass ports and character backgrounds that have had been harassed at the U.S. border as well as beening treated rudely when doing business after they were identified as Canadian in the U.S.

    It is becoming more open the hostility that Americans have to Canaddians in the United States of America.

    They don't respect Canadians or our rights as Canadian citizens. I don't think any agreement between Canada and the United States of America is going to make any difference besides good media copy.

    Just more smoke and mirrors.

    Ann McClellan:

The aim, she says, is to come up with ways to ensure border security officials treat travellers with respect and courtesy.

What she means is, the aim is to come up with ways to shovel more money at lawyers........
---
RickW

    Smoke and mirrors? The article is about _Canadian_ customs and immigration, not American.

    Canadian Immigration: Eh, false French passport, eh?

    Newly Landed Politically Correct Non-Person: Jihad! Kill Americans! <spit!>

    Canadian Immigration: (stamp, riffle, stamp, hands back passport) Welcome to Canada.

    Actually, jensonj, as Canadian citizens, you need to wake up: your rights end at YOUR F*CKING BORDER! Just like any other country, they do not trancend international borders!

    Start to realize: the Canadian/American border IS international! Americans DON'T want any damn idiot holding some vague form of Canadian id wandering across whenever they wish!

    So, yes, you're very right. Americans don't repsect Canadians. Less and less, day by day...

    Anon, so you still have not found your place at home eh? Put a real name to yourself eh! Be a person.

    I for one am fed up with you and your friends intentional posting to get attention, to bash members, new and old, based on their political views, purposely posted to incite anger, bashing and trash mouthing members for any reason you can find as well as posting to undermine on-topic debate and also adding no real facts, information, links, clean intellectual thought or opinion. This is the one thing I hate about this site is people like you.

    In reply to your comment;

    ""your rights end at YOUR F*CKING BORDER! Just like any other country, they do not transcend international borders!""

    Well, it applies to the United States of America as well!! Suck it up sweet heart and grow up!! But you don't, do you? International agreements, contracts and treaties as well as borders don't mean anything to the United States of America!!!

    You preach human rights, liberty, freedom, the rule of law and the common rights as human beings but only if your American citizen!! Everyone else’s rights are up for grabs.

    Keep your self righteous and self serving attitude to your self or start explaining and defending your countries point of view with truth, facts etc. You and your fellow countrymen voted for this NEW AMERICA so you must believe in your country's policies and the direction it going. Explain why this country of Canada should follow and do as the U.S. wants.

    I will tell you right now, if our two nations are to be considered family then it is time for a separation. This dog needs a new master! Canada is fed up with how it is being treated I can tell you.

    One more thing;

    when your country interferes with the democratic rights of my country and its people I WILL SPEAK OUT WHETHER YOU OR ANYONE ELSE LIKES IT. IT IS MY DEMOCRATIC RIGHT TO DO SO!!!!

    I have just returned from a visit to the United States. I experienced courteous and very professional treatment by the Homeland Security inspector at the border, and the people of New York State were unfailingly kind and helpful to my wife and I during our visit. I would like to thank them and express how much we appreciated it. That has always been my experience, and I sincerely hope it always will be. All Americans who visit Canada should receive similar treatment, and I urge every single Canadian to make sure that they do.

    Having been involved in that field of work for many years, I am very well aware that border officials from both countries sometimes overstep their bounds, make mistakes or act in an inappropriate manner. That's to be expected in any human endeavour. But not withstanding the admittedly more frequent anecdotal episodes these days, it is a fact that almost all the millions of annual traveller crossings between Canada and the US proceed without incident. Border inspections are a difficult, demanding and perhaps even dangerous job. By and large, and not in any way excusing the few bad or abusive ones, almost all these border officers, both American and Canadian do an exceptional job.

    It is a sad fact of life that the currrent political climate in the US has given voice to a raving lunatic fringe that seems to hate everyone they do not percieve as clones of themselves. Such voices were always there, it just that in other times and under other administrations they were recognized for what they were, and given scant attention. I think most level-headed Canadians still ignore them, and I believe that's the best approach.

    It is also sadly true that our own government, often mesmerized by the mad greed of a very few miserably selfish Canadians, has lacked the courage to defend us or stand up for us in our dealings with the United States. That's still true today, and we must never stop working to change it.

    Governments come and go in Canada and the United States. That's one of our many blessings. A lot of us think that the sooner the current iterations in both countries are gone, the better off we will be. Perhaps so. But in the meanwhile, the overall Canada-US relationship has endured many changes of government and, over time, has become one of the best relationships between between any two national neighbours on earth. We must never allow cheap and stupid politics, or the voices of extremism or hatred damage that in any way. It is far too precious. In both countries we must work diligently to protect this irreplacable asset, and turn our backs on the corrosive, narrow and quintessentially worthless influences that would destroy it and us along with it.

    Great, great post. My sentiments as well. It’s hard to keep a level headed discussion with some posters.

    All Canadians and Americans not just Politicians need to respect each others peoples and countries. Try to understand each others differences and needs. In the end our two Counties would profit a heck of a lot more if we were able to accomplish this.

    There is a great amount of truth to your post. Thanks.
