Told in eight parts beginning Tuesday, Jan. 4, Four Strong Winds starts by explaining the roots of Canadian music, namely Aboriginal and Celtic, using the likes of Jimmy Rankin, Great Big Sea and Buffy Sainte-Marie. It also hypothesizes that our long, frigid winters help creative types hone their skills. Chantal Kreviazuk recalls spending countless hours listening to old records when it was too cold to do anything else in Winnipeg. That one sounds good. I don't know if I get that channel?The one I have info on that is on CBCNW is: "Idols and Icons". Jan. 03, 8pm ET. This one is on Joni Mitchell and Leonard Cohen. And from the website: <a href="http://www.cbc.ca/idols">www.cbc.ca/idols</a> it looks like there will be a series of these shows but they are not just songwriters or singers. <br />
    <br />
    Also the Passionate Eye, CBCNW at 10pm ET, on Jan. 03/04 is a repeat of one that I have seen that's titled: "Children full of life" and it is truly worth watching. Especially for parents or anyone that is teaching small children. I just loved it.<p>---<br>"Yeah, well, [Mr. President] we used all five fingers because that's the way our mittens are made." I am not sure who will be covered, it's 8 parts so I am expecting quite a few! I am looking forward to the entire series. Luckily it starts after the World Juniors Gold medal competition on Jan 4, that starts at 5:30 pm. Go Canada! It's between Canada and Russia for Gold, the U.S. is up against Czechs for Bronze, just in case anyone is interested in more great Canadian talent!

    Sounds good, but space? I'd say that actually a society where we have time and energy to devote to the higher concerns (art, creation, intellectual pursuits) because we can count on health care and a decent standard of living and some seed money for culture etc is the real answer to the question "why so much creativity in Canada considering the population?". Maybe also a stronger sense of community and less commercialization? Space is a theme, like landscape and our relation to the landscape which is also always a theme in art and lit. But not necessarily the reason for the creativity itself. But what do I know, eh? Go Canada!!! :)

    I had to reread the article to figure out what space had to do with anything. BMD on the brain, I think.

    Canadians are asking, why do americans hate us? They hate our freedoms: our freedom of religion, our freedom of speech, our freedom to disagree with each other.
