    Motivation
complex reasoning including the one whhere within a culture it is acceptable to make jokes of itself while outsiders are denied that option.
    byway of example
    Blacks and the N word

I gotta agree with Bill Cosby on the N word. Using it in a different context doesn't change it's meaning.

"I could really commit genocide on some g'filtna." Just doesn't seem right.

However, it does remind me of the flipside of that joke:

Q: "How many Palestinians does it take to change a lightbulb?"

A: "None. They just sit in the dark and blame Isreal."

I suppose it's healthy to make jokes about one's own culture if the intention is improvement; to point out flaws one sees in order to address them. But should that preclude others from outside the culture from making the same joke?

I can see how Jewish Guilt has become part of the culture. I too can see how Palestinian suffering has become part of it's culture. Can't I point that out to anyone, or do I risk being intolerant of both?

By all means express your views, to me that is the beginning of, or can be, rational conversation.

In the example you have given the distinction is in one culture, Jews in this case is/are victims of self-imposed emotions whereas Palestinians have their lights turned out due to slaughter, land grabs, The Wall, starvation and the list goes on. Israel/Jews, are culpable in the greater acts of inhumanity. For how can there be An Israel without Jews?
To me saying the "J" word is akin to saying people because in both cases the whole range of the Good/Bad scales is represented

I see varying degrees of hypocrisy within us all.

Freaking sad, My friend, freaking sad

I'm not a big fan of ether side in that situation. But I understand both positions. Israel is Israel, it was taken by force and now it is Israel. That is reality, and Israelis do what they feel to be right to protect themselves. Palestinians do the same, even if that means killing Israeli civilians. I don't agree with ether side.

I look at our own natives, who probably feel more like Palestinians and how they deal the hand they were dealt. No one is going to turn the clock back to the 1400's for them; some wallow in their own self pity, some are rightly angered at their treatment, and others say 'All we have is crap. Let's make Crapade' and prosper in their circumstances.

To me exchanges like these serve to bring together (I hope)rather than tear apart

Hehe, yea. I think I remember the meathead who said that.

I always *try* to draw together, rather than divide with my posts. Doesn't always work out that way, but I try. ;)

While we're on the subject; Did I actually see you trying to referee between Indie and RG? Good show, old bean!
