Protest Bush Visit At All Canadian Media Offices

Posted on Thursday, November 25 at 15:44 by gina
It is vital that as many Canadians as possible turn out to protest against US Foreign Policy during George Bush's visit to Canada. Since it is impossible for all of us to go to Halifax I wonder if perhaps the best way to protest would be for mass demonstrations at ALL Canadian Media Offices, both print and broadcast, straight across the country. This could be organized at community level. We must demand that our voices be heard in the media during his visit. We must make it as difficult as possible for them to ignore us. Contact as many activist groups, unions, churches, etc as possible and suggest this as a possible effective action. This could also tie in with the "A Call to Action Stop the War Week December 3-11". http://www.iacenter.org

Why wait to demonstrate until he gets here? WE need to stop him from coming all together. He is endangering the lives of the Canadian citizens by being allowed into our country. The rest of the world is not going to look kindly on Canada for just condoning a war criminal such as Bush is.
Our safety should be Paul Martin's, Bob Chiarelli and Peter Kelly's first priority. Don't they swear an oath to protect us?

    CIA Checks Out Chatrooms
    By Declan McCullagh
    CNET News.com
    11-25-4

Are you chatting on IRC? You never know who might be watching...

The CIA is quietly funding federal research into surveillance of internet chatrooms as part of an effort to identify possible terrorists, newly released documents reveal.

In April 2003, the CIA agreed to fund a series of research projects that the documents indicate were intended to create "new capabilities to combat terrorism through advanced technology". One of those projects is research at the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, N.Y., devoted to automated monitoring and profiling of the behaviour of chatroom users.

Even though the money ostensibly comes from the National Science Foundation, CIA officials were involved in selecting recipients for the research grants, according to a contract between the two agencies obtained by the Electronic Privacy Information Center (EPIC) and reviewed by silicon.com sister site CNET News.com.

NSF programme director Leland Jameson said on Wednesday the two-year agreement probably will not be renewed for the 2005 fiscal year. "Probably we won't be working with the CIA anymore at all," Jameson said. "I think that people have moved on to other things."

The NSF grant for chatroom surveillance was reported earlier this year, but without disclosure of the CIA's role in the project. The NSF-CIA memorandum of understanding says that while the 11 September, 2001 attacks and the fight against terrorism presented US spy agencies with surveillance challenges, existing spy "capabilities can be significantly enhanced with advanced technology".

EPIC director Marc Rotenberg, whose nonprofit group obtained the documents through the Freedom of Information Act, said the CIA's clandestine involvement was worrisome. "The intelligence community is changing the priorities of scientific research in the US," Rotenberg said. "You have to be careful that the National Science Foundation doesn't become the National Spy Foundation."

A CIA representative would not answer questions, saying the agency's policy is never to talk about funding. The two Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute researchers involved, Bulent Yener and Mukkai Krishnamoorthy, did not respond to interview requests.

Their proposal, also disclosed under the Freedom of Information Act, received $157,673 from the CIA and NSF. It says: "We propose a system to be deployed in the background of any chatroom as a silent listener for eavesdropping... The proposed system could aid the intelligence community to discover hidden communities and communication patterns in chatrooms without human intervention."

Yener and Krishnamoorthy, both associate professors of computer science, wrote that their research would involve writing a program for "silently listening" to an Internet Relay Chat (IRC) channel and "logging all the messages". One of the oldest and most popular methods for chatting online, IRC attracts hundreds of thousands of users every day. A history written by IRC creator Jarkko Oikarinen said the concept grew out of chat technology for modem-based bulletin boards in the 1980s.

The Yener and Krishnamoorthy proposal says their research will begin 1 January, 2005 but does not say which IRC servers will be monitored.

A June 2004 paper they published, also funded by the NSF, described a project that quietly monitored users of the popular Undernet network, which has about 144,000 users and 50,000 channels. In the paper, Yener and Krishnamoorthy predicted their work "could aid intelligence community to eavesdrop in chatrooms, profile chatters and identify hidden groups of chatters in a cost-effective way" and that their future research will focus on identifying "topic-based information".

Al Teich, director of science and policy programmes at the American Association for the Advancement of Science, said he does not object to the CIA funding terrorism-related research in general.

"I don't know about chatroom surveillance, but doing research on issues related to terrorism is certainly legitimate," Teich said. "Whether the CIA ought to be funding research in universities in a clandestine manner is a different issue."

It may be to every Canadian's advantage to follow the
lead provided by J.A. Hall who write the following e-
    mails.

The 1st e-mail was sent to C. Bennett, E. Broadbent,
and S. Cardin with copies to G. Duceppe, J. Layton, p.
martin and P. Milliken and this e-mail was then incuded
in e-mails to every known Canadian University
Students' Union that has a valid public working e-mail
    address.

    E-mail to CUSU follows:

Subject: Open Request For Your Involvement

    Greetings Ladies and Gentlemen;

My apologies as I am unilingual.

I sent the following e-mail to these MPs, C. Bennett, E.
    Broadbent, S. Cardin, G. Duceppe, J. Layton, p. martin
    and P. Milliken:
    ===========================================
    ===========================================

Subject: November 2004 Visit of an american Psycho

    Lady and Gentlemen;

Ms. Bennett as our Minister of State {Public Health} you
are somewhat remiss in your responsibilities,
obligations and duties regarding the upcoming state
    visit of the american psycho.

You have truly failed to wisely represent Canada
because of one, this being a state visit places you and
your ministry right in the belly of the beast {ain't
responsibilities a bitch, eh ?} and two, your failure to
realize and understand that the emotional and
psychological well being of one's fellow citizens, whom
you represent, is part of the PUBLIC HEALTH mandate
which, low and behold, is part of your mandate.

There are squashed beavers that smell fresher that the
cumunlative mass of stinking ethical decay that is the
executive branch of the u.s. government.

Mr. Broadbent you were my representative until I moved
    to Sherbrooke in late August.

Mr Cardin you are my representative now that I live in
    Sherbrooke.

As my representatives {the not-so-distant past and
present} I want to make it very clear that I, like the
majority of Canadians, am most displeased with the
moron's [g.w. bush] forthcoming visit to our, still,
    sovereign nation.

    Most displeased, indeed.

There is still time to force a cancellation of this farce
and provide the rest of the world with a tiny ray of hope
that we Canadians not only know that the emperor has
no clothes but also we are most pleased to point out
his nakedness for all to enjoy.

This visit is an affront to the majority of sane,
    reasonably thinking Canadians especially considering
that said visit is all about ego, pomp and
circunmstance and the usual deceit and duplicity "du
jour" {off the cuff - do we get to keep control of our water
    rights until 2007 ?}.

To what degree is this visit a farce ?

One need only ask - would the moron be dropping by if
    he had lost ?

I am concerned how our elected representatives will
voice their displeasure on behalf of their constituents.
Of course, I sincerely hope that your consciences are in
agreement with the majority of your constituents. If not
too bad, so sad, as your responsiblity, obligation and
duty is to your constituents first and foremost, non.

All of you know exactly how {and why} the majority of
your constituents feel regarding both the moron and
any further americanization of Canada. The "voice" we
hear dam well better reflect the "voices" of your
    constituents.

And we better hear it loud and clear, fuckin' well LOUD
and clear. Hopefully I have made myself very clear, eh.

Of course I wonder, firstly, why was the moron invited
and now, why hasn't my government cancelled his
    ticket ?

Or is this a world-wide operation to lure this
psychopath out of his bunker in order to arrest him for
    trial in La Hague?

If so ignore this e-mail, otherwise wake up.

It is because this moron is merely a dressed up
simpleton, a trumped-up egomaniac of vile character, a
    figurehead of americanized and homogenized
corporotocracy that panders to the lowest levels of
    humanity {fear, violence and greed among the many}
such that all past brushes with fascism appear as
tame as a sleeping kitten that I ask all of you to display
nothing but disdain to him and his entire entourage.

His entire entourage in case you missed my point the
    first time.

This may be accomplished in many, many ways as
each of you see fit however may I suggest that I do not
see any of you in any photographs or TV inages with
any of our "state" visitors and that you illustrate utter
disdain and comtempt whenever and however
    possible.

    Speak for Canadians not corporations.

Furthermore, I do not want to see any of you or your
fellow party members in any photos with any members
of the caryle group, especially a. gotlieb {a person for
whom nations are merely artifical boundaries to be
toyed with for greedy, obscene profit taking}, nor any
photos with lying-brian baloney should he ooze into the
proceedings in his usual slimy manner.

Allow harper and his gang of misfits to be the ones
pictured fawning to america and all things american.

When standing is in order remain sitted, when
acknowledgement is requested remain silent and
    unmoving.

If asked to comment then express, as an elected
representative, that the majority of your constituents
view this moron as the opposite of all the good that
humankind strives to accomplish and that he and his
cabal are a plague on humanity spreading fear,
warmongering, murder, no genoicde, throughout our
    spaceship earth.

Our nation should not be party to any favourable
recognition of any nation led by a group of ultra
right wing, warmongering for profit fanatics who may
not be as insane as the Nazi hierarchy however they
are definitely more dangerous. These people not only
pioson all that exists but also they poison the wells of
reason and logic - that which supposedly separates us
    from all other known species.

Of course this is why politicians exist, right ? It is every
politician's first duty to keep as many people as
possible off-balance while fawning to the money, the
power and the influence of the very few and this is best
accomplished by casting aside the simple, the logical,
and the commonsensical for the complex and the
    duplicitous.

This moron and his cabal are the perfect example that
our virtues are now our vices and our vices are now our
    virtues.

Is this the world you wish your families, your
constituents and all future generations to inhabit ?

If so, then lying must become the new cornerstone of
our future. Teach your children well or they will eaten
alive, but not necessarily eaten whole.

View it this way: we pay now or we will certainly pay in
the very near future {2 to 3 years is my guessimate}.
These payments will not be in any currency other than
wide scale destruction both emotionally and physically
such that most human beings who survive {who said
death is not the worst that may happen to a human
being ?} will come to realize, without understanding,
that we have entered a new and better Dark Age.

You and your parties are all that stands between
intelligent reasonableness and gross stupidity. Willful
ignorance is not even an option.

The greatest gift is the ability to learn and in return, the
ability to teach. This one is mine as I know that love is
    overrated, like way overrated.

Once again wish-I-were-king paul has shown his usual
disdain for Canadian citizens, who he realizes are
merely the fodder of global corporotocracy, by inviting
such a crass and shallow being to our country.

Once again wish-I-were-king paul has displayed his
complete lack of courage, his complete lack of
character and his complete lack of anything resembling
    leadership.

I am counting on all of you, and all your elected
colleagues, to display the trust given to you as our
representatives, to display your integrity over any form
and/or manner of complicity, to display your honesty
over doublespeak and deceit, to display your courage
rather than opting for convenience, protocol and any
sundry of meaningless and worthless platitudes.

Most of all I want you to display your compassion as
human beans knowing full well we are all part of
humankind's inhumanity - and inhumanity is in full
    swing.

Anything less and you have lost my trust, you have lost
my vote and you are lost, either in your greed or your
self-interests, or, more than likely, your greedy self-
    interests.

The moron is most harmful to humanity's very
existence, its health and its sanity. Should any of you
disappoint me then I will voice my displeasure by
circulating this e-mail as widely as possible so that
others may realize and understand that humankind has
lost all sense of reason and compassion.

Please note I am aware that capitalization of proper
names is a grammatical rule and by not adhering
to said rule I am displaying my dissent and a
    pronounced lack of respect.

Also, if I may, the BQ and the NDP members better
dam well end any and all "star wars talk". Sucking up
to stupidity for any amount of monetary profit or political
gain only illustrates just how pathetic we are for failing
to take into account all the costs; that is ALL is costs.

    I remain,

    James Anderson Hall

    J. Layton - NDP leader and MP for

    Kasalle-Emard
    P. Milliken - Speaker of the House and

I would be very pleased to learn that every Canadian
student union {from universities, colleges, CEGEPs
to any and all high schools} are also planning to have
their voices heard and understood, especially those
    belonging to Ottawa instututions.

A letter from your respective student unions may be all
that is possible at this time; so do it.

If I missed any of our universities and/or you know of
any student union that I do not know of then please
forward a copy of this e-mail to them.

    Dissent is always necessary.

The greatest gift is the ability to learn and in return, the
    ability to teach.

My family will be travelling to Ottawa to demonstrate.

We have enough time so let us use it, wisely and well.

    I remain,

Rather, I`d like to see him come here, so that when the protests happen, the world gets more of a glimpse of how much he`s not liked. That`s notwithstanding any media censorship, of course. Nice to see him on the run, though. Won`t address parliament due to fear of being 'heckled.' I also want mentally colonized Canadians to see how the majority of Canadians really feel about US foreign policy! No, let him face the music!

Human Shields in Iraq! Instead of protesting within spitting distance of a Tim Hortons, protesters could pool their bus money and send dozens, or hundreds, of human shields to Iraq! They could chain themselves to the doors of slaughterhouses like they found in Fallujah! That would show George Bush that they seriously want peace and aren't just displaying hypocritical anti-Americanism!

  7. Fri Nov 26, 2004 7:24 pm
I wish we Canadians had a priminister with a spine or at least some balls;and quit baglicking little turds like George Bush, and when they say jump; our spinless priministers say how high, cosying up to the yanks while they are giving us a royal screwing in free trade etc. and softwood lumber and canadian beef to name a few;I cant tell you if it were my so called friend and neighbour I would tell them were to go and how to get there in one hell of a hurry and to stay off my turf, and don't come around untill they had an attitude ajustment and then maybe we could be friends again and talk like civilized human beings and not like greedy;power mungering capitalistic morons.

  8. Sat Nov 27, 2004 5:43 am
If Bush can be invited like royalty while being accussed of war crimes and crimes against humanity then THROW OPEN THE PRISONS OF CANADA! Free the murderers! Give them Bush democracy! Give them Bush freedom! Give them Bush!

    Why NOT?

  9. Sat Nov 27, 2004 3:25 pm
    Dear Dave,

If you had read my post in its entirity you should realize
that the e-mail to the MPs made "light" of the moron's
invitation {La Hague, our government's pathetic fawning
to all things american, yada, yada} while the
suggestion to cancel the moron's ticket has at least 2
    (two) very different scenarios.

The first interpretation may be the street's, the mean
street's, WRT "cancelling someone's ticket "and the
second should be viewed as - imagine the beauty, the
signifigance and the uproar that would unfold IF our
government actually TOLD this asshole of all assholes
that his "ticket" is revoked {and Monday evening at
18:00 hours would be perfect as it would illustrate, in
part, how the american government functions which is
more akin weasels rather than humans} ?

The remainder of the e-mail explains in no uncertain
terms how WE, the majority of us Canadians, want our
elected representatives to act and why we expect this
    action from them.

Reducing a piece of text is best accomplished by
reducing all of the text while keeping the connections in
order otherwise one is reducing/distilling in a manner
that is more appropriate for corporo-fascists.

Nonetheless have fun expressing yourself during the
moron's visit but leave any thoughts of violence at the
door on your way out to demonstrate.

ChimpChips {however if you wish to view the real
violence that defines america's very badly damaged
psyche then may I suggest that you borrow a copy of
the film "Very Bad Things" that was marketed as a
"Savagely Funny" comedy, somewhat on the dark side -
one may find it funny if one is able to slide by the reality
    of this humanistic allegory}

  10. Sat Nov 27, 2004 6:07 pm
    Better idea.

Open all our prisons and send the prisoners SOUTH.

Let them wreak havoc for a while, then we can take another step in the right direction.

    Hey, it worked for Saddam.

After Mr. Bush has been allowed to visit Canada this will create a precedent.
The Jews will have to stop requesting deportation of "accused" and "suspected" war criminals alleged to have been involved in the "Hollow-Cost" ( a black hole into which money is sucked by fools).

I'm an American and proud of it. I don't always support President Bush on major issues in the United States. Protesting is your right like we do in the US. We have four more years of his administration. Protesting won't amount to anything. What I worry about is your country refusing to jump in the National Missile Defense program that is vital to Canadas safty. Your government has taken this to lightly. We are neighbors and we should get along. My family originates from Canada and I'm proud of it. Not accepting the National Missile Defense will endanger Canada and the Northern United States. We will be protected while you will be left out and prone to attack. It is your country. As protesting, you have that right like we do in the US. Thank You
