Saddam, Oil For Food, And Canada

Posted on Wednesday, March 30 at 09:36 by John Tiller
For months, Canada's anti-war protestors insisted that "it's all about oil," that the only reason the Iraqi people were being "liberated" was so the second biggest oil reserves in the world could be annexed in perpetuity by Dick Cheney and Halliburton and the rest of Bush's Texas oilpatch gang. Instead, it turns out that, if it is all about oil, then the principal North American beneficiary of Saddam maintaining power, the Iraqi people be damned, was the family of the past Canadian prime minister and the closest friends and ex-partners of the present one. And the oil vouchers payoffs to key people who influence UN policy would have worked except for the tragedy of 9/11. Saddam's sons would have taken over one day and their sons would after that. Why did we like this weasel so much if it wasn't the money?

Hear, hear. What Canada needs is a PM who isn't an economist, lawyer, or CEO.

This has been known for a very long time in some circles...it's just extremely hard to get SOME people to listen to anything that doesn't bolster their positions. Very sad. Yes, it was all about oil. No "ideals"...no "moral high ground"...oil. It's always been about our money here in Canada. That's why others feel so betrayed. How do you think the Iraqis feel?

Funny...no one here wants to acknowledge the existance of this particular article, do they...hmmm...a bit uncomfortable perhaps...too close to home? Remarkable lack of comment...could it really just be that it doesn't "fit" the "anti" mindset about everyone else on the planet except for Canadians exhibited here on this site constantly? Does it "mess with the program" a bit too much perchance? At the very least, I'm surprised that there isn't a huge concentration of "anti-world/anti-everybody" people converging on this article with as much froth, foam, venom, and rabidity as they could possibly muster. This article should absolutely INFURIATE them....it's not what they would want to hear...very confusing...wonder why??? Hmmm....

amazingly this story has only had 164 views as of this moment. is that normal on this site, or is this like the anon above claims...that it's unpleasant to acknowledge that we may have had even m o r e greed involved in our decision not to go into Iraq, as America may have had in it's decision to go? so we don't want to look for fear of what we might see? or is it just more fun to spend our time hating everybody else and what they do as opposed to a bit of introspection? this is like, way bizarre...i thought we as a people were above this sort of thing...if i am to believe all the rhetoric i've witnessed on this site about our canadian idealism and altruism, especially as opposed to their supposedly inferior ethics and morals, what does the denial of this article's existence by most everyone mean?

wow...came back a day later and I see for sure that the anon was right. This IS a major denial thing. Wow. 192 views as of now. This one doesn't even have a pulse! Guess we'd better just bury it forever like everything else about our society which makes us look like hypocrites.

It is time [past due] for Canadians to do something about our corrupt leaders in both government and business who are connected at the wallet. The govenment, the RCMP, the media will do nothing more than sweep this under the rug as the corrupt and powerful Liberals and their backroom powerbrokers become more corrupt and powerful and wealthy.

The people of Canadian must step up to the plate now. We have become the joke of the world in terms or corruption and democracy. These corrupt people MUST end up in prison or this will just continue to be acceptable in Canada.
