Bail Denied To Al-Qaida Sleeper Agent

Posted on Sunday, January 01 at 13:00 by Anonymous
In March, a Federal Court justice upheld the security certificate on which he has been held, paving the way for Harkat's deportation to his native Algeria. That decision was based extensively on confidential information and alleged evidence that has never been released to Harkat or his lawyers. He's appealing to the Supreme Court and was seeking bail pending the outcome of that appeal. http://www.canada.com/montrealgazette/news/story.html?id=5f3ac1d8-e342-4997-acec-30c1c814ba4e&k=78630

So, did you post this story just so you could point that out?

Sorry to inform you, people aren't guilty in Canada until convicted. And so far, he hasn't even been charged with anything. (Hint: to be a 'terrorist', you actually have to cause 'terror')

    > detained for three years on suspicion of being an al-Qaida sleeper agent

So, you aren't guilty until convicted, despite being held for 3 years on suspicion? Yet you are smug in that not being seen as guilty?

What kind of legal judgement is applied in canada on any given day? Whatever is politically useful by those in power?

"So, you aren't guilty until convicted, despite being held for 3 years on suspicion?"

Duh! Being found gulity by a Court of law means you have been convicted of the offense. Until you've been convicted, you are not guilty (see:adversarial system of justice). Since this guy hasn't even been *charged* he can't be *guilty*. And CSIS is never wrong *cough*Maher Arar*cough* are they?.

Just ask people who have been in jail for 10 years, convicted of a crime, then DNA evidence proves they were *innocent* all along.

"Yet you are smug in that not being seen as guilty? "

Guilt is determined by a Court of Law, not public opinion. I always find it interesting how this emotion of 'smug' always seems to find it's way into the written word. It's pretty much become a keyword for those trolling Canadians, who have no other facts at their disposal.

"What kind of legal judgement is applied in canada on any given day? Whatever is politically useful by those in power?"

I suppose it depends on the charge. What do politics and the courts have to do with each other? And thanks for the capital letter.

I'd like to know their stand on the Easter Bunny and Tooth Fairy; equally mythical creatures as well.
