A former Iraqi intelligence officer, whom the Express did not name, told the paper that Saddam was held prisoner by a leader of the Kurdish Patriotic Front, which fought alongside US forces during the Iraq war, until he negotiated a deal.
The deal apparently involved the group gaining political advantage in the region.
An unnamed Western intelligence source in the Middle East told the Express: "Saddam was not captured as a result of any American or British intelligence. We knew that someone would eventually take their revenge, it was just a matter of time."

It was only a matter of time before you got a feature.
First - the Kurdish people I know say they would have beheaded him on sight.
Second - the $750,000 found with him. One would think they would have taken it.
Third - the Pentagon always tells the truth.

I don\'t know, it just seems more plausible to me because it explains why he was in a small hole and looked \"disoriented\" and bedraggled--he was being held prisoner.
The pistol and $750,000 do seem to refute that. To be cynical they could also have been props added by the Kurds or the US. I think it deserves more investigation at the very least.
Now - the beheading. The kurdish people I know have zero love for the man who killed and persecuted their families. A good friend said \"Saddams head on a pike or $25 million and he still lives? I would pick the pike\". Clearly to him and some others money is not what they value first, justice is. In this case it would be the ultimate justice, but justice just the same. One a side note took Ali seven attempts to get out of Iraq and into Europe and eventually to Canada. Its a story that sends both chills down my back and yet makes me proud to know the man who suffered so much to be free.
In the end, we may never know the whole story. Unless... saddam is actually allowed to speak freely.

If there was ever a time for Canadians to become pushy - now is the time - for time is running out on this nation called Canada.
Our politicians are very much in love with the idea we should become more like the Americans, so why don\'t you write to our Prime Minister and tell him it\'s not a good idea from your perspective.
We need people like you to tell our government they are out of their minds.
They don\'t listen to us.

So if we could just sit down and be quiet while the implementation gets going, they would be really pleased, after all we don\'t really have a say, it\'s not our plan! This is the attitude which has been used all over the world, and we are just beginning to see the tip. I do however think we have a chance, as we are more in the know, more connected via internet etc. Hopefully if the people of North America stand up for our rights, we\'ll be in a position to assist those in other countries. If we let them walk all over us, we\'ll be no help to anyone.
