Here's The Slippery Slope We Were Warned Of

Posted on Wednesday, April 18 at 16:04 by Diogenes
The latest draft, seen by the Financial Times, will make it mandatory for all Union member states to punish public incitement “to violence or hatred directed against a group of persons or a member of such a group defined by reference to race, colour, religion, descent or national or ethnic origin”. They will also have to criminalise “publicly condoning, denying or grossly trivialising crimes of genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes” when such statements incite hatred or violence against minorities. Diplomats stressed the provision had been carefully worded to include only denial of the Holocaust – the Nazi mass murder of Jews during the second world war – and the genocide in Rwanda in 1994. http://tinyurl.com/33jq2n [Proofreader's note: this article was edited for spelling and typos on April 20, 2007]

"Diplomats stressed the provision had been carefully worded to include only denial of the Holocaust – the Nazi mass murder of Jews during the second world war – and the genocide in Rwanda in 1994."

This is a strangely worded story, since it contradicts itself when it says these laws also apply in a generalized form.

    Example:

"Offenders will face up to three years in jail under the proposed legislation, which will also apply to inciting violence against ethnic, religious or national groups."

This part makes no sense either:

"Attacks against Muslims, Jews or other faiths will only be penalised if they go on to incite violence against ethnic or racial groups, the draft text states."

and this part is absolutely hilarious:

"the provisions would not penalise the denial of mass killing of Armenians by Ottoman troops in the aftermath of the 1915 collapse of the Ottoman empire."

The EU will have an idiotic War on Holocausts(TM)!

The European Empire is already a sinking ship if you ask me. I wonder how much of this crap the people of Europe will take before rising up against their new rulers?

Yep, exclude the Armenians. I'm with you. Meaningless, unless denial of the gays and gypsies and radicals who were killed in the Holocaust aren't also protected.

The nazi Holocaust killed 16 million, 6 million of them Jews, including some of my friends. Looks like the killing of the 10 million doesn't count.

According to some old Guinness World Records, now no longer listed, the biggest mass murderer was Mao with 26 million, Stalin with 22, and then Hitler with 16, but only the minority 6 million by Hitler do count.

Turkey is trying to get into the EU, so they don't want to offend them.

Not to trivialize mass murder, but there's nothing we can do to help the dead.

What we should be most concerned with is the dogmatization of history and the persecution of our basic unalienable rights, such as our freedom to question whatever we find questionable.

What killed all of those people were lies, deception, and oppression. If we truly want to prevent future "holocausts", then we have to demand a level of true freedom from oppression, and we must demand a level of tolerance from those who wish to dominate. What is being displayed by the criminalization of basic human thought, is a significant lack of tolerance of opinion, and I have a good idea where the path of intolerance leads.

What's the matter with you all? Don't you know that
there is only one genocide against one group of people
that matters in history? So what if huge numbers of
other races of people have been killed - they don't
matter anywhere near as much as the Jewish people
do. In fact, these other races don't matter at all.

Since our fair and balanced media completely ignores
the "other genocides", they're obviously are of no
importance. Only Jewish lives are important, as
evidenced by the fact that the Holocaust is constantly
    being beaten over our heads.

According to our wonderful Prime Minister Harper, "The
Holocaust “stands alone in the annals of human evil”

Is this guy a brilliant expert on historic events or what?
    Applause, applause.

Harper said Canadians and others must be
    unequivocal in condemning "anti-Semitic despots,
    terrorists and fanatics."

Thank you very much Master Harper for telling us small
minded people how to think and who to condemn.
What would we stupid Canadians do without such an
incredible leader? Thank you for allowing us to serve
you Master Harper - the pleasure is all ours.

And if we send him up the bomb in the next election?

I seriously think his days of taking off every zig are numbered.
