Canada - A Metric Country?

Posted on Friday, August 17 at 19:05 by Jacob
What struck me is that the person who developed this text, obviously forgot (or never knew) that Canada, like all countries in the world except three (the United States, Liberia and Myanmar) is a METRIC country - and has been for at least thirty years. Why the text would mention the length of the border between Canada and the United States in "US Customary units" first and then in kilometres, beats me. I believe you owe it to Canadians all over, on a Canadian website, to reverse the order. Jacob, Canadian businessperson temporarily living in the USA with a TN Visa.

Thanks, for speaking up for Canada.

Canada may be a "metric country", but most people I know still talk in inches, feet, and miles. I grew up learning metric measurements in school and even I don't know how many centimeters tall I am. My parents don't understand Celsius. Give this whole metric/imperial thing another generation and maybe metric will be more ingrained.... but there will probably still be 2X4s (almost no carpenters I know of measure things in metric) and lots of other leftovers from the old system.

Either Canadians stand with the metric world - as it is perceived outside Canada - or with the "three amigos" consisting of Myanmar, Liberia and the USA.

Americans are always very surprised when I tell them this. They do not call the units "Imperial Units" or "English Units" anymore, but "US Customary Units." Within the country, there ares even States whose Highway Department are metricated.

Seriously, this is a bit different slant on what is happening at Chateau Montebello, but yet part of it........

    Canadian sovereignty is at stake.
