American Basalt Quarry Not Wanted On Digby Neck

Posted on Friday, July 13 at 14:08 by Haweater
Clayton Concrete of New Jersey want to build a quarry and associated Marine Terminal in the Bay of Fundy to ship our rock to New Jersey to be used on their roads down there. Why do they want to build it here? 1) Because they can--our governments seem to be in favour; 2) Because they are prohibited from obtaining it in New Jersey and in the States along the Atlantic seabord; 3) Because it is too costly to ship material by train and truck from other parts of the United States; and 4) Because our federal government can't refuse them because of the risk of being sued under the North American Free Trade Agreement. Why din't we want it here? 1) It doesn't fit in with what we do here, i.e. lobster fishing and tourism; 2) It may affect the lobster fishing grounds; 3) It may affect the whales who come here in the summer and provide a great tourism attraction for people from all over the world; 4)It may affect the water supply of the people of Little River, the town where the proponent of the quarry wants to locate it; 5) It has already affected the quality of life of the people of Little River. We don't want it in our backyard.

I've been to Digby Neck and the place would be destroyed by such a thing.

As is pointed out, NAFTA is a bad deal for Canada because it directly affects our sovereignty, but so do other treaties such as Canada's involvement with NATO which has resulted in Canadian's and many more Afghans dying for absolutely nothing but corporate greed.

I hung a sign around my neck here in B.C. to join in preventing uranium mining
in my community and it sounds like we will be doing it again as the corporations
are not willing to give up.

Mr. 4Canada and I will be moving to Nova Scotia in the spring and we may be
settling in the Digby area so it sounds like I'll be putting on a sign again to help
with the protection of the environment there.

What really needs to be tackled more than any one thing at a time is NAFTA in
general. When is that prtotest ever going to be taken seriously?

"When is that prtotest ever going to be taken seriously?"

Answer: Politicians will do the right thing *only* when they are finally held accountable in a meaningful way for acts of treason and other criminal behaviours against We the People.

The reality is that We the People we have to start taking matters into our own hands since "the law" is crafted by the perps and is therefore designed to work for them and against us. Until we are prepared to stare down RCMP officers with full riot gear and possibly even our own troops, there'll be no reason for politicians to suddenly develop a conscience.
