Harper, Bush Share Roots In Controversial Philosophy

Posted on Thursday, December 01 at 16:13 by drcaleb
Usually regime change is imposed on a country from outside through violent means, such as invasion. On occasion, it occurs within a country through civil war. After the American Civil War, a new regime was imposed on the Deep South by the North, although the old regime was never entirely replaced. Is regime change possible through the electoral process? It's happening in the U.S., where the neocons are succeeding in transforming the American state from a liberal democracy into a corporatist, theocratic regime. As Canada readies for a federal election, the question must be asked: Are we next? Paul Wolfowitz's teacher, Allan Bloom, and another Straussian, Walter Berns, taught at the University of Toronto during the 1970s. They left their teaching posts at Cornell University because they couldn't stomach the student radicalism of the '60s. At Toronto, they influenced an entire generation of political scientists, who fanned out to universities across the country. http://www.thetyee.ca/Mediacheck/2005/11/29/HarperBush/ [Proofreader's note: this article was edited for spelling and typos on December 3, 2005]

Dr. Caleb; Re: Harper! You are full of Bull S---t!
Seems like you've been living off the Tax-Payers
for too long, like a true Socialist!

Dr. Caleb; I suppose your pick in this Election is
    P. Martin, Fiberal! Lets look at Mr. Martins Canadian
Patriotism. He owns a Shipping Company which does a lot of
its Business within Canadian Waters. ( Don't give us that
BS Martin put that Business in Trust, at Arms Length. If
you feel there is nothing wrong with giving it to your
"Sons" in Trust, Dr. Caleb, there is really something wrong
with you!) While doing most of His Business in Canadian
Waters & a lot of that Business coming from our Federal
Government (Tax-Payers), this patriotic Canadian, P.
Martin, fired, replaced, all the Canadian Crews on these
Ships with cheap foreign Labor!!! Also, this patriotic
Canadian then turns around & registers all of His Ships
under a foreign Flag to avoid paying Canadian "TAXES"!
Then that Crook Martin has the Gall to tell Canadians
how much He loves Canada! Also, since one of Martins Ships
was recently stopped & searched by Police, when an
Underwater Compartment was found, there is a strong
Possibility that P. Martin & His Shipping Company is
involved in smuggling! ( Dope smuggling ). With all the
above, DR. Caleb, plus His Involvement in Ad Scam, etc.,
Paul Martin would be a Candidate for a stiff Prison
    Sentence, ala Conrad Black.

Hold on one minute.. what do you call a Socialist? Is a socialists someone who provides a standard of living to a fellow citizen or someone who gives 400 million to the AUTO industry, 39 million the the maker of the Black Berry, 30 million to Clearwater foods or Billions to Bombardier the aircraft , snowmobile maker or maybe $168 million to Canadian Steamship Lines?
When will the business community ever be ready to stand on its own two feet, instead of stealing away our public infrastructure tax dollars... we are not a frigging bank.

Good government is not a party government

  4. Fri Dec 02, 2005 1:47 am
Yeah, the Fiberals, oops Liberals, have been doing a good
Job over the Years in looking after their Corporate Welfare
Buddies! Especially in Quebec! Check Ad Scam.

  5. Fri Dec 02, 2005 1:55 am

  6. Fri Dec 02, 2005 1:59 am
Hear CSL, Martins Business, supposedly at Arms Length, in Trust, is one of the Fiberals, favored Corporate Welfare Bum on an annual Basis.

The truth folks, is that Harper (Bush-lite), is
a right-wing wacko of the most dangerous type
    : a watered-down, deceptive, evasive NEO-CON
    CRAPHEAD.

It's really quite simple.Look at the issues
    according to Harper.

    -Bomb Iraq ? YES !

    -Ban Repulsive 'immoralities' as defined
    by the religious/puritanical/corporate clan
(gay marriage, pot smoking, swearing/nudity on TV, abortion) ? YES ! Ban it ALL ! In the name of the Lord,
while we consume deadly alcohol and Bomb Iraq !!!
BAN IT AND BRING IN THE MORALITY SQUAD TO
    JAIL THE REPULSIVE INDULGERS !

-Reduce social programs ? YES !

-Reduce corporate taxes ? YES !

-Protect gun 'rights' ? YES !

-Consider the death penalty ? YES !

-Emulate the U.S.A. ? YES !!! They are the ideal
    society !

Now, Harper won't actually *reveal* his ideological
right-wing Bush-Loving insanity, he will CONCEAL
    it.... while constantly doing
    a deceptive dance to appease
    the center.

Harper is a piece of crap who should be
deported to the States. His party has roots
in Reform party anti-Canadian, Western seperatism.
He is NOT a strong nationalist. He'd be
willing to sell Canada away piece by piece to
    American corporations, helping to harm
Canada by telling Quebec to F-Off, and
    fracturing Canada severely with blatant
    Americanization.

Harper is a piece of Pseudo-Republican GARBAGE.
A right-wing wacko of meandering proportions.

Since we seem to have all these problems across the
country, the only solution is for alberta to say bye - bye,
first. & let you easterners stand on your own two feet.
No more transfer payments. since ontario as per the latest
news only has a short while left before it also is tits-up,
bankrupt, BC & Saskatchewan are sure to follow quickly.
when you have a lousy relationship, like a lousy marriage,
the only solution is to split!

All of these hard words on both sides cannot cloak the fact that it is much more likely for Mr. Harper to become Prime Minister of Canada than for anybody with a more progressive, civilized philosophy. I really don't think he will win, but it is certainly possible.

I agree that "neo-cons" are truly repulsive politically, and that Harper's ideology, along with that of Michael Ignatieff (a Liberal parachute "star" in Toronto) and several other candidates for the Liberals and Conservatives in this election seems to tend dangerously in that direction.

We cannot and must not forget, however, that the public seems to accept this brand of arrogant, greed soaked elitism and vote for its proponents, while largely ignoring or rejecting those of us who would try to make life better for most of them, sometimes at considerable expense to ourselves. That is why it is so often said that people get the government they deserve.

Until we can change that, or it changes on its own due to some currently unforseeable event or series of events, we have little room to talk, and can only splutter in frustration as we seem to be doing here.

It's too late to do any good this time around. What we we need to be hearing here are real workable ideas how we can make a genuine impact on the next Canadian government after this one now being elected. I am listening.

"Strauss, who died in 1973, believed in the inherent inequality of humanity. Most people, he famously taught, are too stupid to make informed decisions about their political affairs. Elite philosophers must decide on affairs of state for us."

And this differs from Red Tory nobless oblige or socialist central planners how?

  12. Fri Dec 02, 2005 4:59 am
Red Tories don't seek 'Regime Change'. But we too seem to have died out in 1973.

Now now, no need to become defeatist, cynical, dire,
dour or sour. The parallels between Bush & Harper
are there if we strip away the superficial layer
of deception and evasion which the Neo-Cons
    construct out of manipulative strategy.

There is a great option available for
every Canadian... just say NO to the
    widely implemented Liberal/Conservative coin.
Throw it away. It's a fallacy of false
    alternatives.

Thankfully for Canada, it's not a monopolized
dichotomy as it is in the USA.We have options.

    1) NDP

    2) Greens

    3) CAP

    4) Independents

But the media will try to overwhelm us
with status-quo myopia.."Libs or Cons, libs or cons"..
it's time for us to say no to that script, tear
it up and toss it in the garbage.

    Dr. Caleb:

I am a Tory, and for this reason oppose Harper, the CPC and the "Calgary School."

What some neanderthals fail to grasp is how for many thinking Tories, the difference between Toryism and Neoconservatism can be redrawn as the difference between Christian Platonism and Pagan Platonism.

CP seeks truth and excellence as ends in themselves. PP seeks to use truth for hiden ends and admits no excellence, but the maintenance of power in the hands of an (today meaning a commercial and corporate) elite.

CP marries a Christian ethic to Platonic ideals.

PP marries Machiavelli to Platonic ideals.

The central and most divisive issue is over TRUTH.

CPs are willing to commit political suicide in defence of the Truth. Lying would be a betryal of the Christian and Platonic ethic.

PPs believe in the "useful lie" is that will continue their grip on Power and/or help them realise political ends. The War in Iraq (I support the War on Terror but Iraq was not part of the Terror Network) and the WMD justifications, is an example of a "useful lie" (or as Strauss would have it, a "noble lie), as it gave the Neocons in the Bush Admin a pretext for the removal of Saddam, which was a policy goal of theirs since the First Gulf War.

That this has caused a fall-off of support for American Adventurism domestically, was not part of their plan. Now that the real truth is coming out, they are having a hard time concocting any more "useful lies." (Altough GWB continues with his continuous lies about the reasons for the War, years after they have been disproven...) Even if they would try, the media scrutiny is now - and finally - too great.

That explains the Bush situation. As for Harper and the CPC, they can "pound sand." They will not get my vote. AND I AM A TORY. They are Canadian Neocons, and they are my enemy.

I may Vote Green, or I may write "GEORGE GRANT" or "SIR JOHN A MACDONALD on my ballot.
