Critics yesterday were quick to point out the strategy is being announced right before an anticipated election call, and suggested it's more wish list than blueprint, with few hard dollar specifics and many items that had already been announced.
Premier Ed Stelmach said by anticipating future growth, Alberta has "every reason to be hopeful about the future. It shows we can build responsibly and put ourselves ahead of the growth curve."
It comes after a year in which the government was heavily criticized for allowing a multi-billion-dollar infrastructure maintenance debt to accumulate over the last two decades.
"We don't ever want to be in a position of playing catch-up again," said Stelmach. "With this plan, building tomorrow begins today."
