Martin replied that the government was "struck by the depth and thoroughness" of the Canadian analysis that relied on a 400-page study by the American Physics Society.
perhaps these physicists should help the North Koreans or Iranians develop better missiles? they could go there with their spouses and children because who wouldn't want to spend some time eating grass or learning jihad?
Gee what's the problem? If the missile's land in Canada then they at least, have not hit their intended target,so therefore the MD is a success, right?

The point these physicists are making is not that we don't need defense from attacks, but that the NMD plan is most definitely not the solution. They don't want to be blown up any more than you do; the difference is that they understand the major flaws inherent in any plan that uses missiles to defend against missiles, and are using scientific analysis instead of rhetoric to support their argument.
Martin will likely go ahead with it anyway. He isn't really interested in science or facts or what Canadians want. He is very interested in being Georgie's little buddy.
It's not like either George or Paul have any confidence in science. I mean the scientific community is screaming out about global warming and toxin levels in the air, yet no one's REALLY responding. Heck, they're not even fulfilling the Kyoto Accords *sigh*.
Don't get me wrong. As an engineering student, I definitely understand the limits of science. But politicians should listen to scientists and engineers who tell them something is unreliable.

I keep asking myself, "Where are the thinkers in these governments?" Are they all relying on those porta thoughties, (stink tanks), full of disgarded intellectuals?
"porta thoughties" "(stink tanks)" ROFL, I love it.
Unfortunately I think Rev. Blair has it right. All logic, common sense, scientific support and the *peoples* opinions aren't going to matter one whit. Pleasing Dubya seems to be the #1 concern and goal. I will be astonished if the decision is to decline participation.
Does anyone else get a terrible sinking feeling whenever they hear of meetings between Paul Martin and GWB?
A heavier than air machine will never fly! everyone knows that! The sound barrier will never be broken, it's impossible, against the laws of physics! Nuclear power is all just a crazy theory from that Einstein guy! No one will ever walk on the moon, don't be ridiculous! A hand-held computer? another silly idea, even Bill Gates says a person would never need more than 640k for a home computer and he's the leading expert.....

No one is listening to common sense.
