Rae Getting Ready For Liberal Leadership Bid

Posted on Tuesday, March 14 at 08:40 by Diogenes
The former top man in Chretien's office acted as an emissary for Rae at a recent briefing provided by party executives for potential leadership teams. "I think he's cranking up the machine," said one source close to Chretien. "Now that he's been relieved from his government duties, he has more free time and liberty to test the waters." http://www.ctv.ca/servlet/ArticleNews/story/CTVNews/20060310/liberals_rae_060310/20060310?hub=Canada [Proofreader's note: this article was edited for spelling and typos on March 15, 2006]

Isn't this also "crossing the floor" - from NDP to Liberal?

Reputable politicians have done this in the distant past (Lincoln, Churchill) but that was done on principles. I believe that pragmatism drives these current changes.

Personally I think he will be a poor choice as leader of the Liberals. Ontario has many many Liberal votes they need and with the mis conception on how bad Bob Rae was as premier, this could turn a lot of people away from liberals (and hopefully to NDP).

It sounds like a bad joke. Is he secretly running so the Conservatives stay in power next election? :)

I agree. We should all encourage Bob Rae to run for the leader of the Libs. This would allow Mr. Harper to slaughter the Liberals. When one looks at the likely candidates for this disgraced party me thinks the silly season is in full bloom. I can see it now; Bob Rae as PM and Jack Layton as the water boy. Abbott and Costello at their best. I think not. I like to travel to America and Europe as much as possible and don't plan to visit with a bag over my head.

It could be, but more likely a plot to maintain Power Corporation's influence over the PMO's office.

If the Liberals want to choose a utopian socialist to be their leader, why choose the washed-up Bob Rae when they could choose Michael Ignatieff who is pretty-well an unknown commodity?
