I love how the story says "thousands" of protestors have set up camp in Mexico city. Technically not a lie as the highest number I know about is 2.4 million, which is 2,400 thousands.

Let's hope that they prevail against the corrupt officials and their neo con handlers.

I wonder what Canadians would do if they learned that their elections were rigged (hypothetical - I'm not suggesting this is the case)? Would they roll over and play dead as they have done in the USA, or would they fight like the Mexicans?

The thing is, Harper did not win the last election - he lost! 77% of the eligible vote went elsewhere, yet he's the one in charge!

We're suckers for allowing a highly dysfunctional system of "democracy" to survive for decades. I sure can admire the Mexican protesters.

I guess this makes it a threesome of suspect Musketeers. Bush did not get the majority of votes, Harper leads a minority government, and now a veil of scandal will remain over Calderon's six years in office.

What they do when they will meet the first time? Probably pat themselves on the shoulders for winning and conning the voters, the electoral system and society as a whole. In the mean time, we all suffer.

News! Calderón allegedly asked for the votes not to be burnt, Fox suspended the acts for the day of Mexico and AMLO calls off his protesters. Anyway, I think Mexican electoral system should be reformed to allow second turns. Of course, there will still be "some" corrupt official paid by neocons, but there also will be less possibilities of such frauds.

Perhaps they ARE rigged. Who really knows how many ballots there were for whichever candidate there was in the last election? Who really counted them? Can we trust them? They just simply told us what the results were and we swallowed. Canadians will roll over for anything these days it seems- the frog is soup and noone cares enough yet to do what its gonna take. Oh well, I guess we can all go back to watching Survivor.

    "Perhaps they ARE rigged"

Such a thing would not surprise me at all.

"Who really knows how many ballots there were for whichever candidate there was in the last election?"

No idea. I find it interesting that it is very hard, if not impossible, to find statistics showing how many ballots were spoiled (I keep looking but cannot find this statistic published anywhere), and how many people did NOT vote per riding (I've only seen stats for overall voter turnout), etc.

"Who really counted them?"

I went to the Elections Canada site, but found no specific answer.

For example my search on "ballot counting" returned: No documents matched the query: ballot counting

Other search words returned no results.

"Can we trust them?"

Hell No!

Interesting paper I found referenced on the Elections Canada website: ELECTORAL SYSTEMS

Keep in mind, that the powers that be want you to vote in high numbers, and they want you to feel as if you are part of a fair system that works. However, they also want to hold on to all the cards and they want to make sure that they always win no matter how you vote. The true power of a democracy, is in its ability to pacify the masses into accepting what is in reality little more than a dictatorship.

Don't agree? Then explain how Harper can exist when 77% of the eligible vote went elsewhere, and explain why Canadian troops are still fighting the Empires war in Afghanistan when just about no one supports the gesture. Did you know that Canada also helped overthrow a democracy in Haiti and is currently helping the Empire with occupying the country? Has any political party done anything but embrace the official 9-11 fabrication along with all of it's obvious flaws despite most Canadians having an understanding that 9-11 is a lie?

Exactly. Good points reargaurd. And a crucial part of the systems aim to further muddy the waters is the constant use of the term: "The election is simply too close to call." We saw that term used (arguably where it came to ascendance) during the theft of the U.S. 2000 presidential election (where, "coincidentally", all the previously relatively accurate exit polls were proven to be wrong for some strange reason) and we saw it in our own recent "election" of Harper and I'm currently seeing it in my home provinces provincial election. Theres been a lot of info on CBC (which is the only channel I get) about how THEY get their "results", but precious little on how the government actually does it.

It is critical the the public believe that the election could go either way so that any fudge will go unnoticed and unquestioned.

The thing is, though, it doesnt matter who we "vote" for on whatever level of government. Its simply a symbolic gesture nowadays. The global capitalist agenda will continue with no real, effective political opposition, and the opposition that might be effective will be dealt with by swiftboating and violence.

<yawn> Like the song says, "Here come the new boss, same as the old boss."
