The one thing that gets me is how the separatists are so deathly afraid of Anglo-Canada, yet they find it within their interests to cozy up to the United States, those zealots of xenophobia. I recall some years ago, Lucien Bouchard requesting a private meeting with Bill Clinton. I truly believe that the top flight in the Quebec separatist quarter ultimately do not have the best interests of les Quebecois at heart. They want to run their own kingdom. I mean, yes, Quebeckers and francophones do recall the past injustices and grievances, but today, they are FAR from being an oppressed people within Canada.

I did not realize that Duceppe had opened this can of worms.
Note that the TS title is misleading -vs- content of story.

"Duceppe noted Canada's monetary policy is already "aligned" with the U.S., so following the EU's lead with the euro would not be that radical: "I'm not saying we have to adopt or not the American dollar. I say we have to study the question ... just like the Europeans did. They didn't come with the euro in a snap."

I would like to hear Duceppe's views on Canadian Sovereingty. It is fine to say that Canada would be better off without Quebec but where is the substance on this? If monsieur Duceppe? Perhaps they should know before heading into the next referendum, what currency would be used in a sovereign Quebec. This issue has always been extremely sensitive. Heading to a US$ may be even more!

Dave: I am reading this cozying up to the yanks as a sign of despair by sovereignist politicians. Not one of confidence IMHO. Not all that different from the other neocons, is it?

Like I said about Duceppe before, this supposed "Marxist" is typical of most radical progressives:

Risk destroying everything you have to achieve "greatness." Whatever the hell that means.

Duceppe is the worst politician in Ottawa--worse than Martin.

Stupid Duceppe. Doesn't he know that Quebec would inherit all the problems with a huge US trade deficit and the perpetually tanking dollar? The Globalists always want to crack Canada up into regions easily dominated. Canada needs Quebec, but if Duceppe would be willing to break it up for a bowl of pottage, then he is of no use to a united Canada. I wonder how many CIA agents are active in the Separatist Bloc, which seems to be willing to hang Canada for a little gain.

A unified currency would give Ottawa politicians less room to manipulate the economy for short term political gains, so it may be a good thing for Canada. Probably would not be a good thing for the Province of Quebec, but may be a good thing for an independent Quebec.

"You know me and you're not throwing me rocks when I'm speaking to you because we're both the same," Duceppe told about 100 people at an Economic Club luncheon."

What does this say about Duceppe's concern for the common man, aka the Quebecker that's not in the Economic Club?

I guess I was wrong, but I was always under the impression that part of Quebec's independance drive was to become less American, like the ROC?!?! This is a step in the wrong direction.

Next news we will hear about Duceppe and Bush sitting around the ranch making cracks about France!!!!

I am starting to think twice about Duceppe, althou Martin, and Harper are no better...what's left? Oh that's right! The obvious choice for the good of Canada!
