Buying Your Love, One Word At A Time

Recently, Prime Minister Harper invited American pollster and political strategist Frank Luntz for a visit. It was a telling move, given Mr. Luntz's impact on discourse in the United States. In fact, Mr. Luntz's efforts have been credited in part for President Bush's re-election. While Democratic candidate John Kerry should have had a field day with Mr. Bush's poor economic, environmental and military leadership records, Kerry blathered on in the language of specialists, leaving the public cold. Meanwhile, George W. talked the plain language of the people, using Mr. Luntz's carefully crafted words and phrases, and repeating them over and over until they became accepted as the norm... >> When words get in the way of your agenda, what do you do? You change the words, of course. Even if you have to make up new ones.

    >>It's part of what communications strategists call "framing" - the way they present messages to the public to make them more palatable. And it's become a big part of how the new Conservative government plans to win you over.

    >>Think tax relief, not tax cuts. Think climate change, not global warming. Think responsible development, not sustainable development. These words and phases are not casual alterations. They are deliberate, tested and designed to sway public opinion. And they work."

    Thanks for sharing those words.

    One cannot make general statements without taking into account also Canada's regional values and differences. Another one of Harper's big mistake.

    Since I have spent much time living, working and traveling in both the West and in the East of Canada I did notice that those words you had used still do work mostly in the younger west.. for the same words often do not work in the more civilized, more practical, more mature east. The east definitely wants more honest governments more than the tax cuts returns. And that really frustrates the mostly west based Conservatives to no end, and they cannot understand why the easterners are not so selfish, self centered, secular, greedy, unkind as them, as the younger west.

    I also did clearly notice that In Alberta, which has the highest divorce rates in the countries, most people do not have relatives as well,, most of them in the larger cities are newcomers who have left their family to get richer..and any possible help from the older persons and the aged wisdom. Most of the Alberta seniors, retired family members seem to too quickly leave the province to retire elsewhere sadly too for it is too expensive to stay in Alberta

    Alberta's Jim Dinning political platform of keeping Alberta rewards, all of their income solely for the government of Alberta and not sharing it with the poor people of Alberta or of Canada does not at all go along with most easterners. and many of the people in the east often cannot understand what the great fuss is about what should be done with the execs wealth in Alberta too. It should be distributed to where it is needed the most , the poor people, and without all the fuss too.. and what they want a gold medal for doing such good deeds.. a big height of real superficiality and hypocrisy as well it seems.

    Ands many easterners are also shocked that a preacher like Alberta's Preston Manning and many other Alberta preachers are so clearly obsessed in talking so much about money too.. the root of all evil and this was one main reason he never made it at all in east getting to the top. The French Quebecois for example too are not as materialistic and know more about joie the Vivre, than most westerners I had met too. Most Quebecers do also prefer to live in simplicity, in apartment dwellings, and they unlike most Albertans they do not want a big expensive house that requires a lot of maintenance, work to look after it too. Most Quebecers go more often out to eat in restaurants than the people of Alberta now for sure as well. Toronto's and Montreal's night life, especially on weekends, are significantly more busy in comparison to Calgary and Edmonton as well

    It is undeniable that more people in the east are more spiritual, and they do know and read the Bible more, go to church than they do in BC or in Alberta as well, and that also explains why they have such different values in these different province now too.

    This really should come as no surprise.

    For decades now, euphemisms have been used to soften and cover up the meanings of what has actually been said.

    Losing your job due to corporate greed is called "down sizing", "right sizing" and "outsourcing".

    In war "civilian deaths" are referred to as "collateral damage", being killed by your own side is softened to "friendly fire".

    And of course selling Canada piecemeal to foreigners is refered to as "free trade".

    The whole deal is a made for tv propaganda fest that makes anything Hitler did during World war II look like the stumblings of an unranked amateur.

    It's all Newspeak in one form or another.

    It's all also spin doctoring in one form or another.<br />
    <br />
    The spin Doctors are alive and well and they do also use the news media to do it.. for it seems you can still buy most any persons for about ten doolars in Canada, a gift of a bottle of wine.. but some realy bad people demand much more payments.<br />
    <br />
    I was shocked to discover that even the Conservative we had just elected are also lying spin doctors often too, I should not have been shocked, for most politicians are still big liars, they lie big to win their seats still it seems, do not keep their preelection promises, the Conservative ones included, even a professing Christian Evangelical like S Harper himself now.<br />
    <br />
    "Harper's policies going the wrong way Regina Leader-Post, Canada - One thing you can say about Prime Minister Stephen Harper and his government, they certainly do things their own way..... Questions about the Conservatives' plans around Kyoto, the gutting of energy-efficiency programs, like EnerGuide for Houses, Saskatchewan's demands for 10-per-cent biofuels content and 50 per cent Western Canadian feedstock, were either ignored or dismissed out of hand.... More importantly, while the Harper government seems fixated on saving nickels and dimes, the bigger picture often gets missed.. It's understandable for the Conservative government to want to put its own stamp on policies, such as Kyoto. It's another thing to systematically kill any program or project the Liberals had a hand in. That sort of mean-spirited, bloody-mindedness is not in Canadians' best interest."<br />

    <br />
    and is Harper going to complain about this news report too? <br />
    <br />
    we now have had decades and decades of lying crooked politicians in Canada as well.. and they seem to be getting worse too. <br />
    <br />
    There are effective solutions still to all of this too. Appropriate punishment in a real jail for the crime committed. It works. I also have done prison visitation and I have seen the shock of persons arrested for their crimes such as attempted murder, and they now had plenty of time to think about the wrong they did. I have seen many a pastor and their wives as well tremble ins hock when their wrong doings were publicly exposed and they were dismissed from their jobs also next. <br />
    <br />
    And we now this week also can see the undeniable shock of Stephen Harper when his sins are now also been publicly exposed too. It is easy to get under Stephen's Harper's Skin.. ONE JUST HAS TO POINT OUT THEIR OBVIOUS UNACCEPTABLE SINS IN PUBLIC AND THEY GO HAYWIRE NEXT FOR THEY THINK THEY GOT AWAY WITH THEM.<br />
    <br />
    it is still immoral, please do note that too, unethical for any elected Minister of the government to play politics, to pick and chose as to who she or him will help, to show partiality, favorites in doing their jobs. And any persons who shows partiality should be immediately exposed, dismissed from their offices, their subordinates included now as well. Simple AND still serious too. <br />
    <br />
    DISCRIMINATION AND PARTIALITY BY ANY CIVIL AND PUBLIC SERVANTS, POLITICIANS IS ALSO REALLY UNACCEPTABLE AND MOST PEOPLE INWARDLY WOULD AGREE WITH THIS TRUTH UNDENIABLY TOO.<br />
    <br />
    God himself does not take personal, human rights and legal abuse quietly now.. so many people wonder how will this play out, how will it end.. and the answer is always the same and predictable, unavoidable especially for Mr. S Harper .. <br />
    <br />
    (Gal 6:7 KJV) Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. 8 For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting. (1 John 1:9 KJV) If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.<br />
    <br />
    <br />
    .. I am not unemployed! I am pursuing a career change, hopefully for Mr Stephen Harper and his crew

    Yes, it's all spin doctoring as you say. I just preferred using terms that spell it out directly without the jargon.

    The sole purpose of spin doctors is to make sure the truth is aborted before it gets out.
