Trial Period For Sovereignty Main Page

This also means that we are getting information posted on a wider variety of topics. While that makes the site more interesting and diverse, it also means that our very specific activist mission and vision can sometimes seem buried. Every time someone posts an article, and an editor approves it (as we do for the vast majority of information on the site), it goes into a specific topic (eg Environment, Labour, The Border). If you click on the topic in the topic menu at left, you can see all the articles in that topic, starting with the most recent. The editors also always have a choice whether or not to show each article on the main page. When we first started out, almost everything went both in the topic and on the main page. But with so many stories being posted, it's making less sense to keep doing this. Remember, the main page is a section of it's own so everything posted there is therefore archived twice, in two different sections. As you can see, the main page section is now huge. We've held a site poll on this and the governing board has voted on it, and in order to give more structure and topicality to the main page, what we're going to do is make it policy to put only articles that have the most to do with our mission and vision (ie Canadian sovereignty, democracy, our columnists) on the main page. All articles in other topics will still be posted--just not to the main page. And remember, we have always done this to some extent, as we have stated in the FAQ. But we are going to do this on a trial basis, to be reassessed at the next board meeting (January), and we are going to provide a poll allowing you to express whether or not you like the new format as it becomes more obvious how it's working. The editors will also be seeing how they feel about it. Meanwhile, we are also looking into methods of global moderation--or allowing you to add "karma" or rankings to posts, meaning that the ones everyone judges useful will rise to the top, and possibly the main page, and those that don't won't be visible (it's basically troll poison). However, this is still only in the theoretical phase and we have to determine whether or not it will work. Lastly, I want to say once again that this is your site, and we aren't interested in censorship, ie not posting articles just because we disagree with them. All the same articles will still be posted, but prominence will be given to things that are on topic. If you want to see what new articles have been posted, see the "What's New" box, which makes it easy to view any new articles, comments, or links. And if you want your piece on the front page, make it topical, important, interesting--vital to Vive--and it will appear there. Check out pages like the FAQ, Why Vive le Canada, the mission, about, and the backgrounders to find out what we're looking for; and take a look in the Sovreignty Watch and The Border section for some good examples. Or check out http://www.notacolony.ca. Something on the environment will still fit on the main page if it talks about the environment and Canadian sovereignty. If your article still doesn't appear on the main page and you think it should, you can always appeal to the editors personally--if you make a strong case, we are always willing to reconsider. The editors are volunteers who spend a lot of time working on the site and are committed to the site's mission and vision and are there to keep things spam free, on topic and as fair as possible. By sharing editing duties we are limiting the influence one person's bias may create, and we are always looking for more editors to lighten the load. But we are also a site, and an organization, with a very specific activist mission and vision, and we need to make sure the site is still serving that larger reason for being. Thanks for your support through this trial, and Vive le Canada! This country is not for sale. Susan Thompson and Dr Caleb

I think the test is an excellent idea.

I'm very sorry TyrannyResponse, I went to reply to your post and deleted it. Fat finger error. My bad.<p> <blockquote> This site might have nothing to do with the vive's mandate, but they have one of the coolest systems going. <p> <a href='http://www.abovetopsecret.com/'>above top secret</a><p> they seem to be listed with BigBoards , and I could not find the vive there. Simply registering there might be an option. <p> <a href='http://directory.big-boards.com/'>big boards</a><p> "About Big Boards<br> Big-Boards.com is a simple and fast-loading website aiming to present to its visitors a list of the most active message boards on the web. These message boards may be ranked by post count, by members count, by post per member ratio, using only recent (previous week) data, using alexa.com ranking system, or by traffic for the boards which have included one of the big-boards trackers. Visiting forums from this list may be very interesting for different reasons, for a user simply searching for particular information, searching for an active community on a particular subject, or for a forum admin to learn by looking at successful boards how to improve his own management.<p> The site is updated daily by a script which visits all boards in our database and retreives the board status. This script only executes one http request on the main page of the board, and at a time of typically low internet usage in order not to bother the forums' regular users. A daily status database is kept to be able to provide statistics of evolution of the board over time. Depending on the willingness of the board admins to share their knowledge, interviews are available for some of the message boards.<p> Visitors being aware of a large board not present on the list can let us know by using the free message boards url submission form. This url will then shortly be reviewed and added to our database (provided that it fits the requirements).<p> Finally, some extra information is available for forum admins to help them learn how to manage their forums, or find a good host.<p> If you are looking for software to run your forum, please check out our forum software section.<p> If you have any question regarding this website please read the FAQ or feel free to contact us"<p> Look on the left hand side of the above top secret page - they rank:<br> Site Stats<p> Most viewed threads<p> Most Replied Threads<p> This is a cool setup. It also feeds the egos of submitters as it allows them to collect points based on how their submissions, both original and re-posts, are ranked by their peers. Points allow people to add avatars or change colors, etc. But the thing is, you reward people for creating original content based on what the moderators beleive a story warrants. Look into it, you might find it to be a possible avenue to explore.<p> </blockquote><p> That page is pretty 'busy'. Those statistics are available as well on Vive, for the forums, but not accessable except to editors/admins :(.<p> <p>---<br>"If you must kill a man, it costs you nothing to be polite about it." That is certainly a step in the right direction, well indicative of the land of the softspoken and mildmannered. That was my "White Sheep" comment BTW. <p> Now here is a "Black Sheep" perspective in response to the problem of increased blatant trolling: <p> <BLOCKQUOTE>: ... <br> 6) There are market and technical fixes to every problems (in reference to Slashdot karma system) <br> 5) All markets should be entirely deregulated: all regulations are bad <br> 7) All forms of governments (or public infrastructures) should be ... decimated <br> 10) Agression will always win </BLOCKQUOTE> See top 10 list "beliefs" in response to the Americanization of Canada. <p> There are some issues with the tyranny of the masses that enjoy clashing over left/right, Bush/Bush bashing, Canadian Sovereignty and its bashing, Quebec Sovereignty and its bashing, DD and its bashing,etc... The list goes on. <p> Although Vive may grow in quantity (eg. # of clicks&members) without further correctness "regulation", it may not expand its horizons by much judging by the level of civic debate often prevailing in articles and in forum. Vive may still not attract a whole lot of participants from the North and rural areas, First Nations, La Francophonie, etc..., which I thought was the real value at Vive. The good intentions are all there but the execution is not (yet). Vive will most likely attract more people from the big cities where the numbers are and click on their issues. So the "minorities" have to take their own problems in their own hands and do their own Internet NGO Sovereignty thing since the majority won't care much anyhow about their issues and will not seek the common underlying themes. Could it be the microcosm thing again? <p> How can we expect to do better on the real thing (i.e. Canada) if we do the same at the Canadian Sovereignty People level? An improved front page under trial must be an étapisme thing in the land of the mild mannered. Intentions are good. Let's see how the herds move now. <p>---<br>"We are all in this together somehow, some more than others somehow"

I think Alternet Discussion format is an excellent way to handle a variety of topics and is one of the best I have seen on the Internet. However, I believe Vive is more democratic in the handling of their Discussion. Also, I do like the idea of comment after an article. Also Alternet does not allow one to post an article, so that plus censureship are real drawbacks to Alternet. Plus, since I have experienced both, I would say that overall, Canadians seem to have a more advanced intellectual actual discussion than Americans, which is why I have turned to Vive for my view of what is happening in the world. Just like the Native tribes in America, Canada cannot ignore what America is doing, because it will directly affect you. The time to resist is now. Also, activistism is dead in the water in the US, not for failure of people to object, but to bring it to the local level. That is the ONLY place one can make a difference. How many petitions can one sign to remove Bush? How many times have people met on the WhiteHouse lawn to object? How much has this accomplished? As of Nov 2nd, we have a rather bleak answer. Anytime you can make it personal and local, that is a success. But I think Vive is on track; it's just that it is so sucessful we need more tracks that don't become sidelined, made irrelevant when the only thing is life that is relevent was always local and personal because this is the only place people have a voice. The rest is tyranny no matter how it is disguised--monarchy, democracy, fascism, communism, etc.

Thank you so much, Vive, for allowing everyone a voice. And I think the quality of people here have more than adequately reeled in the Troll or hyperactive CIA or Fed, whoever makes a concerted effort to disrupt the conversation and get people off track. So, in other words, the troll voice ended up being just a little mouse squeak and they left a few mouse droppings. If left unchecked, I am witness to the exact kind of damage this scum can do to people's lives, including murder. But, I am getting off topic. Just like you allowed Judge Lisa Cook to vent her venom here. But it has ended up that she has provided evidence to be used against her in a real court of law(I hope). So it all works out for the best.

it's about time the site administrators did something to rein in the gobbledegook of postings that have been permeating this site for the past year. The site is about ensuring canadian sovereignty...but of late vive has unfortunately been without direction, evidenced by the many 'articles' and submissions that were largely about either a) bashing US imperialism or b) bashing israel. The submissions were so unrelated to the site's raison d-etre, i and many others just lost interest in teh site. regrettably, these submissions which had (have) little, or more likely, absolutely nothing to do with the canadian state were getting the most attention on the site. If I want to understand US imperialism or the israel-palestine problem, then i'll go to a site that revolves around those issues. stay on topic!!!!!

bravo, perhaps now we can talk about what really matters to THIS country.

I don`t know, I see quite alot of material on this site that relates to this country. But I still think that we should be able to talk about whatever we want. I believe in freedom of speech.
