Posted on Wednesday, August 23 at 14:32 by sthompson
In response to recent articles in conservative publications about the sovereignty, freedom and economic dangers that will result from President George W. Bush's creating the Security and Prosperity Partnership of North America in Waco, Texas, in March 2005, the partnership has issued an unconvincing rebuttal... And yet, when you mention SPP or NAU to a typical Canadian they just look at you expressionless. I have warned about Deep Integration, NAFTA Plus, SPP and NAU in quite a few published letters in local newspapers over the last couple of years, but no one ever replies or makes comments in a followup letter (but let me defend the Palestinians and look at the name calling and smear tactics I get hit with). Are our citizens so stupid that they will let these bozos get away with this? Even worse, this slimey annexation of Canada and Mexico must be completed in less than a year from now so that Bush can sneak it through Congress under his "fast track" authority. This is also the major reason why they had to steal the Mexican election from AMLO. Twenty years ago I thought I escaped from most U.S. influence after I became a Canadian, but now they are taking my beloved Canada with the help of their treasonous quisling Harper. Damn Mulroney for rolling this ball first!

And just look at the lessons from this Softwood debacle. These agreements are strictly for the benefit of the global corporatist elites, not typical people or any national interest.

Great comments, I agree completely. The frustration with people's total igorance about this issue is something I share and the reason Vive was created in the first place. Thank you for your letters to newspapers about the issue--actions like that may seem unimportant but every little bit helps get this into people's awareness and consciousness, even if they don't ignite the controversy we would all hope. My wish would be that enough people would become aware of this that we would reach some kind of critical mass and it would boil over into a national debate, but without major media coverage and outrage on the editorial pages it doesn't seem to be happening, and as you say time is running out. We need to do more, and the question is what? How?
