Happy earth day! And even though SUV's are far outselling hybrids this year, here's a link Footprints posted in the forums:

My question: When will companies like Peugeot, Lancia and Fiat start selling their fine sub compacts in North America? Sure, the Ford Focus, Chev Aveo, etc are a good cars, but the Peugeot 307 / 406
/407 are subcompacts with many 'big car' luxuries. The VW Jetta TDI is amazing on fuel (diesel) but they can't ship enough units to keep the price reasonable.

Yea, I know, I'm one to talk - driving 2 big 4 door cars.

North Americans (myself included) like the big, V-8 steel monsters that really are just phallus extensions. Except when it comes to filling them up.
I think that when we get over it, we'll adjust. We just have too much distance to drive because of the spread out nature of our country. I like a big car when I have to drive 10-12 hours, but just around town, I wish I had something smaller.
With foriegn manufacturers starting to outpace the domestic ones in sales (excluding SUV's) people are becoming more accepting of smaller cars. I think soon that Renault, Peugeot and the likes could soon start to gain acceptance here.
