Ignatieff Targeted Over Early Terror Writings

Posted on Monday, October 23 at 08:54 by franklee8
"In the New York Times several years ago, he talked about the issue of evil," Rae said, interrupted by boos from Ignatieff supporters. "He said to fight evil, we sometimes have to do evil," Rae said, including indefinite detentions, coercive questioning and targeted killings. "To me, this has nothing to do with the Charter of Rights," he said. Ignatieff said his mother's fiance died under torture in Buchenwald, one of the Nazi death camps, "so you can be pretty much assured I am against torture." He proclaimed himself to oppose a missile shield as protection against strategic dangers. His supporters say while the article raises the question of using unsavoury techniques, Ignatieff himself never endorsed them. http://cfcn.ctv.ca/servlet/ArticleNews/scfcn/CTVNews/20061021/liberal_convention_061021 [Proofreader's note: this article was edited for spelling and typos on October 23, 2006]

How can Iggy have 30% support? This guy is trying to change history with respects to everything he has written.

If Iggy wins the next federal election will be the Clash of the Necons.

Anyone who has read some of his writings and they are not all that early (unless you would class things written in 2004 as his "early" writings)will find that they can be used as a justification of torture simply by re-defining what is meant by the term and applying "coercive interrogation" to the remaining harsh interrogation methods. In other words, torture under another name is no longer torture.

This is exactly the kind of reasoning that has been used by neo-conservatives to change the meanings of many traditional terms. Ignatieff has engaged in a form of verbal gymnastics. Early writings give a good clue as to how a leader will perform in office. After studying Stephen Harper's early writings virtually nothing he has done so far is a surprise.

Ignatieff writings make it easy to class him as an American imperialist. Like Paul Martin, a corporate globalist who seemed indecisive because he could not find a way to make that ideology acceptable to the electorate, Ignatieff often puts his foot in his mouth by trying to make his ideology politically palatable.

"How can Iggy have 30% support? This guy is trying to change history with respects to everything he has written."

Funny, I yelled out the same thing just this morning after hearing it said on CBC radio.

My wife seeing me turn a little red with anger, calmy asked me what I always ask her when she gets emotional after hearing a news item:

"How do you know it's true?"

    Indeed!

Does anyone know for sure how these creeps are selected? How can anyone as a party member seriously consider selecting Iggy???

For all we know Iggy is on the losing end of the stick. I sure hope so, although he may "win" anyway.

You sure this guy wasn't separated from John Kerry at birth? His writing is typical self-serving fear mongering political propaganda. Basically, anyway you slice it, Canada, as we know it, is screwed.
